Athens, Ohio – The Ohio Soccer Team (3-4-3, 1-0-2 MAC), returned to Chessa Field Sunday, Sept. 21, to take on the Akron Zips (3-3-2, 0-1-1 MAC) on Senior Day, ending the match in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of play. Junior
Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky.), scored the lone goal for the Bobcats in the 47
th minute.

Overall, Ohio outshout Akron 15-9 with the Bobcats having seven shots on goal compared to the Zips three. Akron finished the game with five corners to Ohio's four.
Individually, the Bobcats' offense was led by Burchett, who had two shots, with one shot on goal and the Bobcats only goal of the game. Junior
Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio), was also an offensive standout with three shots, and two shots on goal. Sophomore
Sania Dearing (Pickerington, Ohio), and junior
Kate Robinson (Madison Heights, Mich.) both registered two shots for the Bobcats with Dearing having two shots on goal and Robinson having one. Graduate student
Quintin Tostevin (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) had two shots, with senior
Ella Deevers (Streetsboro, Ohio), senior
Scout Murray (Chicago, Ill.), junior
Rylee Mensel (Westerville, Ohio), and junior
Melia Peer (Pittsburgh, Pa), all having one shot.
Senior
Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) got the start in net for Ohio and played in all 90 minutes for the Bobcats, giving up one goal with two saves facing eight shots faced.
The Zips looked to get on the board first with a free kick in the first minute of play, forcing Sloma to make an early save. The Bobcats were able to respond in the ninth minute with a shot by Murray but missed the target.
Ohio kept the pressure on the Akron defense, playing a majority of the first half on Akron's side of the field. Brooker added two shots for the Bobcats in the 16
th and 20
th minutes of play, both shots forced the Akron keeper to make a save. The Zips had exchanged shots with the Bobcats in the 19
th and 22
nd minute, both were stopped by the Ohio defense, one saved by Sloma, and one shot was blocked.
Robinson tried to put the Bobcats ahead in the 23
rd minute, but her shot would be denied by the Zips' keeper. Tostevin and Mensel both attempted shots, but were off target, keeping the score tied at 0-0.
Akron had an offensive chance in the 38
th minute, but the shot was blocked in by the Ohio defense. Ohio's last chance of the half came in the 42
nd minute of play off of a Tostevin header, but the redirection was unable to find the back of the net.
Going into the half tied at 0-0, Ohio registered seven shots with three shots on goal to Akron's four shots with two shots on goal.
Ohio looked to score first early in the second half, with Robinson adding a shot off a header in the 47
th minute, but the attempt was just right of the goal.
The Bobcats found the back of the net first seconds later in the 47
th minute, off the shot by Burchett. The right footed shot to the bottom left corner gave Ohio the 1-0 lead early in the second half.
Burchett looked to extend the Bobcat lead in the 52
nd minute but was unable to find the back of the net.
In the 57
th minute, the Akron offense was able to break through the Bobcat defense and tucked a shot by Sloma, tying the score 1-1.
The Zips kept the pressure on the Bobcats with two corners and a shot; all three attempts were unsuccessful.
Ohio applied offensive pressure looking to take the lead with shots from Deevers in the 67
th minute, Dearing in the 71
st minute, and Brooker in the 73
rd minute, but all three shots missed the back of the net, keeping the score tied 1-1.
The Bobcats forced the Zips' keeper to make two saves in the 80
th minute and 82
nd minute with shots from Dearing and Peer. Even with the late game efforts, the Bobcats were unable to score again, finishing the match with a tied score of 1-1.
The Bobcats return to play on Thursday, Sept. 25, to face MAC opponent Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
