Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Ohio volleyball team (2-9, 0-0 MAC) dropped two matches against Maryland Eastern Shore (3-8, 0-0 MEAC) and Charlotte (8-3, 0-0 American) on Friday, Sept. 19.
GAME 1 vs. MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE: L, 2-3 (23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 11-25, 13-15)
Ohio finished with 60 kills, eight aces, 12 blocks, 57 assists and 56 digs. UMES finished with 52 kills, seven aces, eight blocks, 50 assists and 58 digs.
Freshman
Bailey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) led Ohio's offense with a career-high 19 kills in addition to two aces and a team-high 24.5 points. Blair also recorded an attack percentage of .316. Junior
Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) finished second on the team with 11 kills and 12 points. Junior
Gentry Brown (Shadyside, Ohio) added 10 kills and 10 points. Sophomore
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) led the team in assists with 33 total.
Brown recorded a team-high 12 digs. Junior
Caroline Curran (Wexford, Pa.), Blair and junior
Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ind.) tallied seven digs each. Blair finished with a team-high seven block assists. Junior
Emily Waddell (Carmel, Ind.) added five block assists and one block solo.
UMES took an early 1-0 lead after winning the first set, 25-23.
The second set was a tight one with both team trading points back-and-forth. Ohio came out on top with a 25-22 win and tied the game at 1-1.
The Bobcats dominated the third set, 25-15, and took a 2-1 lead over UMES. UMES kicked off the set for four-straight points, but the Bobcats answered back with four of their own. Several scoring runs including a nine-point scoring run in the middle of the set aided Ohio in their win.
The Hawks answered back with their own dominant performance in the fourth set. UMES took the fourth set in a 25-11 decision. With the game now tied at 2-2, Ohio was forced to play a fifth set.
UMES secured the 3-2 victory with a 15-13 win in the fifth and final set.
GAME 2 at CHARLOTTE: L, 0-3 (19-25, 21-25, 24-26)
Ohio finished with 40 kills, four aces, seven blocks, 38 assists and 50 digs. Charlotte finished with 38 kills, seven aces, eight blocks, 36 assists and 60 digs.
Blair once again led Ohio's offense with a team-high 11 kills and 11.5 points. She also recorded an attack percentage of .391. Junior
Torre Kildow (Bethesda, Ohio) added 10 kills and 11 points. Janke tallied a team-high 20 assists.
Hickey recorded a team-high 11 digs. Gardner added a team-high three block assists.
Charlotte gained an early 1-0 lead after winning the first set, 25-19. Charlotte extended its lead with a 25-21 win in the second set.
The Bobcats fought hard for the third set but were ultimately upended by Charlotte. Charlotte won the the third set, 26-24, and the game 3-0.
The Bobcats will conclude competition at the Charlotte Invitational with Furman on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 12 p.m. ET.
