ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio football is back in Athens this Saturday, while Ohio soccer returns to Chessa for two MAC games with Senior Day set for Sunday. Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints, presented by Memorial Health System.
FOOTBALL

The Ohio football team (1-2) returns to Athens on Saturday, Sept. 20 for their final nonconference matchup of the season when the Bobcats host gardner-Webb (2-1).Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium and can be seen on ESPN+. The Bobcats' matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield, presented by Holzer Health System. Veteran Ohio radio personality Marty Bannister is reprising his role as Ohio's play-by-play broadcaster. Bannister will be joined by color analyst Rob Cornelius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for more than two decades.
The Bobcats and the Runnin' Bulldogs have met three times since 2007, posting a 3-0 series record. The two teams last went toe-to-toe in 2016; Gardner-Webb evened the score in the first quarter, but Ohio surged ahead to win, 37-21.
Ohio is coming off a loss at No. 1 Ohio State Saturday in Columbus. Two quarterbacks got playing time against the Buckeyes, with graduate student Parker Navarro throwing for 94 passing yards and one touchdown and redshirt senior Nick Poulos throwing for 19 yards on four completions. Junior wide receiver Chase Hendricks scored Ohio's lone touchdown after a deep reception in the third quarter. The Bobcat defense made a handful of highlight plays against the Buckeyes, including interceptions by redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Austin Mitchell and graduate student cornerback Michael Mack II. Senior safety Adonis Williams Jr. led Ohio in tackling with nine total tackles, all being solo stops. Redshirt junior defensive lineman Anas Luqman tallied the team's lone sack.
Gardner-Webb is 2-1 three games into the season and are coming off a 10-point win over The Citadel on Saturday. Running back Quasean Holmes led the ground game for the Dawgs, chewing up a team-high 90 yards on 17 carries. Carson Gresock added tough yards up the middle, posting 33 yards on just six carries. The defense was anchored by Cahari Haynes, who collected nine tackles, including seven solos. Robert Holtz tallied a sack to go along with two tackles for loss.
WOMEN'S GOLF

The Ohio women's golf team returns to the course this week when they head to Yorktown, Ind. for the 2025 Brittany Kelly Classic Sept. 15-16 at The Players Club. The two-day event is hosted by Ball State and will begin with two rounds on Moinday, Sept. 15, before concluding with the final round on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Teams competing at this year's event are; IU Indy, Valpo, UIC, Indiana Wesleyan, Ball State, Lindenwood, Dayton and Ohio.
Competing for the Bobcats this week are junior Zoe Luebbers, senior Mackenzie McRee, junior Morgan Rodgers, senior Alaina Nugent, sophomore Ally Turner and freshman Paige Treherne.
Ohio last competed Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the 2025 A-Ga-Ming Invitational hosted by Central Michigan. The Bobcats finished the tournament in fifth place overall with a score of 892 (+28), while Luebbers and McRee both finished the weekend in the top 10.

The Ohio soccer team (3-4-1, 1-0-0 MAC) returns to Athens for two Mid-American Conference matchups. The week begins on Thursday, Sept. 18 against Bowling Green (6-1-1, 1-0-0 MAC). First touch is set for 4 p.m. ET aat Chessa Field. Ohio then wraps up the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 21 when they host Akron (3-2-1, 0-0-0 MAC) at 1 p.m. at Chessa. Both games can be seen on ESPN+. Sunday will serve not only as Ohio's Alumni Weekend, but it will also be Ohio's Senior Day where they will honor their 10 seniors for their time at Ohio.
Bowling Green heads to Athens with a 6-1-1 overall record and a 1-0-0 mark in MAC play after defeating Kent State, 2-1, on Sunday. Meanwhile, Akron comes to town with a 3-2-1 overall record after falling to Dayton on Friday. The Zips will take on UMass on Thursday before heading to Athens on Sunday.
Ohio is coming off a 1-0 week that saw Ohio shut out Central Michigan, 1-0, on Sunday. Graduate student Quintin Tostevin scored Ohio's lone goal, while senior goalkeeper Celeste Sloma did not allow a goal, while making six saves on eight shots faced.
CROSS COUNTRY

The Ohio men's and women's cross country teams are both back in action this weekend for the 2025 George Dales Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich. The event that is hosted by Western Michigan will take place at The Prairies Golf Club with the women's 6k race set to start at 10 a.m. ET, with the men's 8k to follow at 10:40 a.m.
Ohio last competed on Aug. 29 at the Thundering Herd Invitational in Huntington, W. Va. The men and women both took home first place finishes, recording 24 and 15 points respectively. In addition to winning the meet, the top finisher in both the men's and women's 5k races were from Ohio. Junior Charlie Slates won the men's race with a personal-best time of 15:01.46. On the women's side, senior Leila Boussedra was victorious with a first-place time of 17:32.88.
Four other Bobcats placed in the top 10 of the men's 5k race. Junior Andrew Bracken placed second with a personal-best time of 15:07.90. Junior Nick Kennedy followed behind Bracken in third place, running a PR of 15:14.84. Junior Marcus Runkle also placed in the top 10, finishing ninth with a personal-best time of 15:31.03.

The Ohio volleyball team (2-3) is back in action Sept. 19-20 in Charlotte, N.C. for the 2025 Charlotte Invitational inside Halton Arena. The weekend begins on Friday, Sept. 19 for two matchups starting at 10:30 a.m. ET against Maryland Eastern Shore (2-8). Ohio is then back on the court at 6:30 p.m. ET to take on host Charlotte (6-3). That match can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio wraps up nonconference play at Noon ET on Saturday, Sept. 20 when they take on Furman (7-2).
Maryland Eastern Shore heads to Charlotte wit a 2-8 record and are coming off loses to Virginia Tech, Marshall and Robert Morris at the Virginia Tech Tournament this past weekend. Charlotte is 6-3 overall and are coming off three wins at the UNCW Invitational this past weekend, where thr 49ers took down UNCG, West Georgia and UNCW. Furman is 7-2 overall after picking up three wins this past weekend at the Furman Invite where they defeated Alabama State, North Florida and Winthorp.
Ohio is coming off a tough weekend at the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational in Dayton, Ohio, falling to Ohio State, No. 7 Pitt and host Wright State.

After a week out west, the Ohio field hockey team (1-4, 0-0 MAC) heads to North Carolina this weekend to open up MAC play. The weekend begins on Friday, Sept. 19 when Ohio heads to Boone, N.C. to take on MAC opponent App State (4-1, 0-0 MAC). First touch is set for 3 p.m. ET at the Dr. Jan C. Watson Field at the Brandon & Erica M. Adcock Field Hockey Complex and can be seen on YouTube. Ohio then heads to Davidson, N.C. on Sunday, Sept. 21 to take on Davidson (3-3). First touch is set for Noon ET and can be seen on ESPN+.
App State is currently 4-1 overall, with their lone loss of the season coming last Friday against No. 2 North Carolina. Meanwhile, Davidson is currently 3-3 after defeating Bellarmine on Sunday. The Wildcats will take on La Salle on Friday before hosting Ohio.
Ohio is coming off a three-game California road trip that saw Ohio take on UC Davis, Standford and Cal. Ohio picked up their first win of the season on Thursday, defeating UC Davis, 2-1 in OT, while senior Sasha Dikotla scored the game-winning goal, giving her two goals on the week.
