ATHENS, Ohio— Ohio football alumnus
Coleman Owen caught up with Ohio staff following his appearance in the Indianapolis Colts' preseason. He reflected on his touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals (Aug. 23, 2025) and how the 2024 season helped prepare him for the NFL.
Owen (Gilbert, Ariz.) transferred to Ohio prior to the 2024 season and went on to play an integral role in the Bobcats' 11 wins. He became the leading single-season receiver in program history, logging 1,245 yards and marking the third Bobcat in program history to record over 1,000 receiving yards in one season.
What were you thinking about during the play?
I had a decent idea that the ball would be coming to me when that play was called. I just trusted in my training and preparation in the moment, and the quarterback threw me a great ball.
What's it like playing games this early in the season compared to intrasquad matchups?
It's a great experience facing other NFL teams rather than ourselves. We put a lot of time into our training camp, and after a while, it gets repetitive facing your own team every day. It's always fun to strap up the pads against an opponent whenever you can.
How did your time in Athens help prepare you for playing at the next level?
Like I said earlier, your preparation and training are what prepare you for moments like that. In the heat of the moment, you have to trust your technique and ability. My time in Athens definitely helped prepare me for these moments because of the big-time games we played in last year. Games like the MAC Championship and the Cure Bowl were high-stakes games that have helped me learn to stay calm in big moments.
How has the "Bobcat spirit" followed you to the NFL?
The Bobcat spirit follows me everywhere I go, truly! You wouldn't believe the amount of conversations I have had in the past month about OU. Whether it is conversations with Colts teammates and coaches, fans asking for autographs, media, or a lady on the street who sees my Bobcats backpack, it is always apparent how big of a fan base the Bobcats have. I will always represent the Bobcats with pride in whatever I am doing.
