ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (12-36, 7-20 MAC) fell 6-3 in its series finale against Ball State (34-18, 20-7 MAC) on Sunday, May 11.
Ohio finished with eight hits and one error. Ball State finished 10 hits and no errors.
Graduate student
Blake Reed (Gahanna, Ohio) led Ohio with two hits, two RBIs and one run. Sophomores
Caleb Karll (Fitchburg, Wis.) and
Trae Cassidy (Northville, Mich.) both finished with two hits. Graduate student
Trenton Neuer (Nicholasville, Ky.) and redshirt freshman
Drew Cox (Mason, Ohio) tallied one hit each.
Freshman
Hunter Winston (Hinckley, Ohio) started on the mound for Ohio, pitching 5.0 innnings and recorded five strikeouts.
Ball State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Cardinals increased their lead to 3-0 after the top of the second inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Reed got the Bobcats on the board with an RBI double to left field.
Ball State largened its lead with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Ohio responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth off another RBI double by Reed and an RBI single by Cassidy.
Ball State went on to win the game 6-3.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Western Michigan on Thursday, May 15. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.
