ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio baseball team (10-31, 5-15 MAC) split its doubleheader (2-18, 12-9) against Miami (23-19, 17-6 MAC) on Saturday, April 26.
Game 1: 18-2, Miami
The Bobcats got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single through the right side by senior Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.). Graduate student Blake Reed (Gahanna, Ohio) added to the total with an RBI single through the left side in the following at-bat.Â

Miami snuck in a run on a single in the second inning before it added a barrage of runs in the third and fourth inning. Miami stitched together 10 hits and a sacrifice fly for nine runs in that time frame. Miami later added three more runs in the top of the fifth.Â

The RedHawks increased their lead with five more runs across the sixth and seventh innings combined.Â

Ohio was unable to get anything started in the final few innings of game one.Â

Starter Blake Gaskey (Davenport, Iowa) was charged with the loss after three and one-third innings of work. He struck out three batters.Â

Game 2: 12-9, Ohio
Ohio was down after Miami hit an RBI single in the top of the first, but it didn't stay there for long. Cauthron launched a three-run home run to right field to give Ohio an edge.Â

The Bobcats built on that edge in the bottom of the second on a single by graduate student Trenton Neuer (Nicholasville, Ky.) and an RBI groundout by freshman Matt Ineich (South Lyon, Mich.). Sophomore Trae Cassidy (Northville, Mich.) capped off the inning with a three-run home run of his own.Â

Despite Miami collecting two runs in the third inning, Ohio retained the lead with the help of a solo home run by Cauthron.Â

The Redhawks chipped away with a solo home run in the top of the sixth, followed by a single and a two-run homerun.Â

Ohio repaired its lead with a double by Neuer in the bottom of the sixth. A sacrifice fly by Slanker brought home another run and gave Ohio a three-run lead.

Heading into the top of the ninth, Ohio held a 12-8 lead over Miami. Freshman Julian Robertson (Aurora, Ontario) appeared on the mound as the Bobcats hoped to secure the victory. Robertson earned his second save of the season as Ohio came out on top with a 12-9 win.
Senior Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) started for Ohio on the mound. In five innings pitched, Boncal recorded three strikeouts.
The Bobcats will be back in action against Miami on Sunday, April 27. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
