ATHENS, Ohio — The Ohio baseball team dropped its game against Miami 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium.Â
Miami kicked off the afternoon with a three-run home run to left field in the bottom of the second inning, but that didn't deter Ohio. It collected two runs on a single by sophomore Caleb Karll (Fitchburg, Wis.) and a double by Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio).Â
The RedHawks tacked on another run in the top of the third on a double to extend their lead. However, the lead soon belonged to the Bobcats.Â
Karll knocked another single and advanced on the throw to bring in a run. Graduate student Blake Reed then traded places with Karll after he sent a double deep into left field. After a sacrifice bunt moved Reed over, sophomore Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio) capped off the rally with a sacrifice fly to send him home.Â
Reed and Karll both led the Bobcats with two hits each.
Reliever Jimmy Cerha (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) helped the Bobcats out of a jam in the top of the fifth before producing a clean inning in the sixth. Cerha exited after three innings of work in which he gave up no runs on three hits. He came in for freshman starter Hunter Winston (Hinckley, Ohio).Â
A stalemate ensued through the six and seventh innings, with both teams trading quick outs.Â
Miami broke the silence in the eighth inning by scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. After that, it took the lead.Â
Ohio tried to piece together a tie after it loaded bases in the bottom of the ninth, however it was unable to cross the plate.Â
Ohio will be back in action on May 2 at Akron. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and the game can be viewed on ESPN+.Â
