ATHENS, Ohio— Ohio football alumnus Anthony Tyus III signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent today (April 26).
Â
Tyus (Portage, Mich.) joined the Bobcats prior to the 2024 season, immediately etching his name into the record book by joining the program's short list of 1,000-yard rushers. He made 13 appearances for Ohio— including 12 starts—and opened the season with a bang against Syracuse. Tyus rushed for 203 yards and two touchdowns during his Bobcat debut, logging a long rush of 46 yards. On the season, Tyus rushed for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 5.1 yards per attempt and 93.5 yards per game. Additionally, Tyus caught 16 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns. His strong performance earned him All-Mid-American Conference Second Team Offense accolades.Â
Â
Prior to Ohio, Tyus appeared in 31 games at Northwestern from 2021-23. In a full-circle moment, he punched his first collegiate touchdown against Ohio when the Wildcats hosted the Bobcats; on the game, he rushed for 51 yards. Following his junior campaign, he earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition for her performance on and off the field. In total, Tyus logged just over 500 rushing yards for Northwestern, scoring twice.
