KENT, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (9-26, 4-11 MAC) fell to Kent State (21-13, 11-4 MAC) 14-3 on Thursday, April 17.
Ohio finished with three runs, four hits and no errors. Kent State finished with 14 runs, 13 hits and one error.
Freshman Hunter Winston (Hinckley, Ohio) started on the mound for Ohio and pitched 2.2 innings. Winston threw one strikeout, allowed four hits and six runs on 11 at bats. Junior Landon Price (Chargrin Falls, Ohio) recorded two strikeouts, allowed four runs on three hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
Redshirt senior Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 1-for-3 at the plate, scoring one run and earning two RBIs. Sophomore Trae Cassidy (Northville, Mich.) went 1-for-2 at the plate and recorded one run. Redshirt sophomore Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) and senior Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) each recorded one hit.
Kent State got on the board first, scoring two in the bottom of the first inning. After a scoreless second, the Golden Flashes scored eight runs on eight hits in the third to take a 10-0 lead.
Cassidy singled to right to get on first and advanced to second on a groundout. Dolan followed with a home run over the left fence to set the score 10-2. Kent State added one run in the fourth for an 11-2 lead.
The Bobcats took advantage of a walk and a throwing error to cut into the Golden Flashes' lead, 11-3.
Kent State went on to score three more runs, ultimately winning, 14-3.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Kent State on Friday, April 18. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.
