KENT, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (9-28, 4-13 MAC) fell 14-2 at Kent State (23-13, 13-4 MAC) on Friday, April 18.
Ohio finished with seven hits and no errors. Kent State finished with 10 hits and no errors.
Seven Bobcats recorded one hit each. Sophomore
Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio) led Ohio with one home run and one RBI.
Senior
Blake Gaskey (Davenport, Iowa) started on the mound for Ohio. In four innings pitched, Gaskey recorded six strikeouts, allowed seven hits and nine runs. Freshman
Luke Bryant (Ashland, Ohio) replaced Gaskey on the mound and pitched 1.2 innings.
Kent State took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Golden Flashes increased their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Ohio got on the board with a home run by Slanker in the top of the fifth inning. After five innings, Kent State led Ohio 9-1.
Ohio scored its second run of the game in the top of the sixth. Senior
Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) got on base with a triple and went on to score off an RBI single by redshirt freshman
Drew Cox (Mason, Ohio).
Kent State went on to win the game, 14-2.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Kent State on Saturday, April 19. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET.
