Ohio Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Kent State

KENT, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (9-29, 4-14 MAC) fell 12-6 at Kent State (24-13, 14-4 MAC) on Saturday, April 19.
 
Ohio finished with 11 hits and three errors. Kent State finished with 12 hits and one error.
 
Four Bobcats with two total hits each. Both graduate student Trenton Neuer (Nicholasville, Ky.) and senior Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Senior Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and redshirt sophomore Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) finished 2-for-5 at the plate. Neuer led the team in RBI's with two total.
 
Senior Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) started on the mound for Ohio. In five innings pitched, Boncal recorded six strikeouts and allowed seven earned runs. Sophomore Jack Geiser (Medina, Ohio) pitched 2.2 innings, recorded three strikeouts and allowed three runs.
 
Kent State took an early 3-1 lead in the first inning. Ohio got on the board off an RBI sac bunt by Cassidy, allowing sophomore Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio) to score.
 
Kent State's offensive momentum continued to challenge the Bobcats. After seven innings of play, the Golden Flashes held an 11-2 lead over Ohio. Ohio's second run came from Cauthron in the top of the fourth inning.
 
Ohio kicked off the eighth inning with a home run by Dolan. Cauthron followed up with a double and was able to advance to second on a wild pitch. Back-to-back walks got redshirt freshman Drew Cox (Mason, Ohio) and sophomore Caleb Karll (Fitchburg, Wis.) on base. Ohio looked to close in on Kent State's lead with a 2 RBI single by Neuer. The Bobcats trailed 11-6 heading into the bottom of the eighth.
 
The Golden Flashes went on to win the game, 12-6.
 
The Bobcats will be back in action against Northern Kentucky on Tuesday, April 22. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
