ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (3-11, 0-3 MAC) dropped its final game against Bowling Green (9-5, 3-0 MAC) in a 10-7 decision on Sunday, March 9.
Senior
Dillon Masters (New Albany, Ohio) started for Ohio on the mound. In six innings pitched, Masters threw five strikeouts. He only allowed one hit on 18 at bats.
Freshman
Matt Ineich (South Lyon, Mich.) led the Bobcats at the plate with three hits on five at bats, including one double. Sophomore
JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) finished with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBI's. Sophomore
Trae Cassidy (Northville, Mich.) recorded two doubles, one run and one RBI. Three other Bobcats recorded a home run including sophomore
Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio), redshirt senior
Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and junior
Dylan Shepherd (Barrie, Ontario).
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning. Cassidy got Ohio on the board, bringing home Nelson with a double down the right field line. Slanker followed up Cassidy with a two run home run to right field. After three innings, Ohio led Bowling Green 3-0.
Ohio added two runs in the bottom of the fourth, increasing its lead over the Falcons to 5-0. After a single by Ineich, Nelson hit another two run homer for the Bobcats.
Ohio's third home run of the game came from Shepherd in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shepherd gave the Bobcats a 6-0 lead over the Falcons.
The tides changed after Bowling Green scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Bobcats answered back with a home run by Dolan, but the Falcons still cut Ohio's lead to 7-5.
After scoring three runs in the top of the eighth and another two in the top of the ninth, Bowling Green took the victory, defeating Ohio 10-7.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Morehead State on Tuesday, March 11. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.
