MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Ohio baseball team (4-11, 0-3 MAC) took down Morehead State (6-9, 0-0 OVC) in a 20-17 decision on Tuesday, March 11.
Ohio finished with 20 hits, eight home runs and two errors. Morehead State finished with 15 hits and no errors.
In his college debut, freshman
Brady Alexander (Glenshaw, Pa.) led Ohio with five hits, two home runs, three runs and seven RBI's. Sophomore
Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio) finished 3-for-5 at the plate with four runs, three RBI's and one home run. Redshirt sophomore
Cam Bryant (Miamisburg, Ohio) also recorded three hits in addition to two runs and two RBI's. Redshirt senior
Nick Dolan hit two home runs for Ohio and finished with four runs, two hits and three RBI's.
Freshman
Julian Robertson (Aurora, Ontario) started on the mound for Ohio, his first start of the season. In two innings pitched and 13 at bats, Robertson allowed six hits, seven earned runs and recorded one strikeout. Ohio had four other pitchers appear on the mound against the Eagles. Trey Barkman (Kidron, Ohio) secured the victory for the Bobcats and earned his first win of the season. Barkman and the Ohio pitching staff combined for six strikeouts.
Ohio's offensive kicked off the game with an impressive 11 runs and nine hits. In the top of the first, the Bobcats recorded five-straight home runs followed by three straight doubles. In the bottom of the first, Robertson and Ohio's defense only allowed one run by the Eagles. At the end of the first inning, Ohio led Morehead State 11-1.
However, the Bobcats did not score for five straight innings while the Eagles slowly closed in on their lead. Morehead State tied the game at 11-11 with three runs in the fourth inning. The Eagles took 13-11 lead with two runs in the sixth inning. Despite scoring five runs in the top of the seventh, Ohio still trailed Morehead State 17-16.
A two-run home by Dolan in the top of the eight put the Bobcats back on top with a 18-17 lead. Alexander secured Ohio's win with another two-run homer in the top of the ninth.
After a tough battle between both teams, Ohio came out with a 20-17 victory over Morehead State.
