ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball (4-13, 0-5 MAC) lost both games (14-7, 4-1) of its doubleheader against Central Michigan (4-14, 2-0 MAC) on Friday, March 14.
Game 1: Central Michigan 14, Ohio 7
Overall Ohio finished with seven runs, 16 hits and one error. Central Michigan finished with 14 runs, 13 hits and one error.
Redshirt senior
Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led Ohio in runs with three in addition to three hits on four at bats. Sophomore
JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) finished 3-for-4 at the plate along with one RBI and one home run. Senior
Wes Lug (Huntersville, N.C.) came in as a pinch hitter in the second half of the game. Lug finished 2-for-2 at the plate, recording a two RBI home run for the Bobcats.
Senior
Blake Gaskey (Davenport, Iowa) started on the mound for Ohio. After pitching 2.2 innings and recording three strikeouts, he was replaced by senior
Tyler Peck (Oak Creek, Wis.). Peck tallied two strikeouts for Ohio and freshman
Hunter Winston (Hinckley, Ohio) recorded one for the Bobcats.
Ohio got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. After a single by Dolan, sophomore
Pauly Mancino (Westlake, Ohio) hit an RBI triple to right field.
In the top of the third inning, Central Michigan's offense unleashed on Ohio, scoring 11 runs. The Chippewas added three more runs in the top of the eighth inning.
The Bobcats scored five runs across the seventh to ninth inning, but it wasn't enough to catch up with Central Michigan. The Chippewas won the game in a 14-7 decision.
Game 2: Central Michigan 4, Ohio 1
Overall, Ohio finished with one run, five hits and no errors. Central Michigan finished with four runs, nine hits and one error.
Sophomore
Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio) led Ohio with two hits, including one double, and one run. Dolan, Mancino and sophomore
Trae Cassidy (Northville, Mich.) recorded one hit each.
Senior
Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) started for Ohio on the mound. In six innings pitched, Boncal allowed three runs and recorded nine strikeouts on 23 at bats. Sophomore
Jack Geiser (Medina, Ohio) relieved Boncal and pitched three innings. Geiser allowed one run and recorded two strikeouts on nine at bats.
Ohio took a 1-0 lead off a run by Slanker in the bottom of the second inning. Central Michigan tied the game a 1-1 in the top of the third inning.
The game remained tied at 1-1 until a three-run homer by the Chippewas in the top of the seventh inning. Central Michigan went on to win the game in a 4-1 decision.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Central Michigan on Saturday, March 14. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on YouTube.
