ATHENS, Ohio —
The Ohio baseball team (3-10, 0-2 Mid-American Conference) fell 8-6 to Bowling Green Saturday afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium.

Senior Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) earned his first start of the season against the Falcons (8-5, 2-0 MAC). The right-hander allowed three runs on four hits and 5 walks over 6 and ? innings. He fanned a season-high seven batters.

"It was a great performance by Hudson. He went out there and he competed. He ran out of gas a little bit there in his last inning, he didn't get a call that we felt was a borderline ball or strike. But that's the game," head coach Craig Moore said.

Ohio clinged to Boncal's stellar start through the first half of the game. Sophomore Pauly Mancino (Westlake, Ohio) put Ohio on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a single through the left side. The run was enough to keep Ohio above water until the fifth inning.

The Falcons tied the game in the top of the fifth on a single through the ride side, and the lead shifted their way in the top of the seventh. The Falcons collected on a bases-loaded walk and a single up the middle.

Freshman Matt Ineich (South Lyon, Mich.) put the Bobcats back in the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning. The knock to right field was the first of his career.

Ohio thought it was in the clear until Bowling Green brought out its own out-of-the-park abilities. Bowling Green smacked a two-run home run and a three-run home run in the top of the eighth to put Ohio behind once again.

The comeback bid from the Bobcats in the bottom of the inning started on an RBI pinch-hit double by junior Dylan Shepherd (Barrie, Ontario), followed by a single from Mancino. It ended on an RBI walk from sophomore Trae Cassidy (Northville, Mich.).

"I thought we battled. We didn't quit. We kept on coming back at them offensively," Moore said.

Mancino led the Bobcats with a career-high four hits (4-for-4) on Saturday. His 14 hits this season are the third most on the team.

The Bobcats as a whole had their second-straight game with 10 or more hits. Bobcats with multiple hits included Ineich (2-for-4), sophomore JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) (2-for-5) and senior Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) (3-for-5).

Despite an attempt in the bottom of the ninth, the Bobcats were unable to take the win from the Falcons.

Ohio will be back in action on Sunday (March 9) for the final game of its series with Bowling Green. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Bob Wren Stadium and the game can be viewed on YouTube at OhioBobcatStudios.
