TOLEDO, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (6-14, 2-6 MAC) dominated Toledo (6-14, 2-5 MAC), winning its first game of the series 16-4 on Friday, March 21.
With today's victory, head coach
Craig Moore earned his 100
th career win at Ohio.
Overall, Ohio finished with 16 runs, 15 hits and three errors. Toledo finished with four runs, seven hits and three errors.
Sophomore
Ben Slanker (Canfield, Ohio) finished 2-for-three at the plates with one home run, three total runs and four RBI's. Sophomore
JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) tallied a team-high three hits – two of which were doubles – in addition to two runs. Sophmore
Pauly Mancino (Westlake, Ohio) also finished two-for-three at the plate with a double and a triple. Mancino also recorded four RBI's and one run.
Senior
Blake Gaskey (Davenport, Iowa) started on the mound and earned the win for Ohio. In six innings pitched, Gaskey allowed four runs, two earned, and recorded two strikeouts on 23 at bats. Sophomore
Jack Geiser (Medina, Ohio) replaced Gaskey on the mound and pitched one inning.
After a scoreless first inning, Ohio's offense unleashed on Toledo in the top of the second. The Bobcats scored five runs on three hits and one error. After a single by senior

Blake Reed (Gahanna, Ohio) reached first on a fielder's choice. After a couple at bats, the bases were full. Toledo walked sophomore
Trae Cassidy (Northville, Mich.), allowing Reed to score. A sac fly by Slanker brought home graduate student
Trenton Neuer (Nicholasville, Ky.). Ohio's final scoring play of the inning was an RBI single by redshirt senior
Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Freshman
Matt Ineich (South Lyon, Mich.) scored on Dolan's single and the Bobcats led the Rockets, 5-0 after two innings of play.
Toledo cut Ohio's lead to 5-3 in the third inning.
Ohio increased its lead to 7-3 in the top of the fourth inning. The inning started with back-to-back singles by Slanker and Dolan. A sac bunt by Cauthron put Ohio in a scoring position. Mancino's sac fly brought home Slanker. Dolan scored Ohio's seventh run off an RBI single by Reed.
In the top of the fifth inning, Ohio scored four more runs on four hits. With two players on base, Slanker slammed a three-run home run to center field. Cauthron and Mancino put the Bobcats up 11-4. Cauthron got on base with a single. Mancino followed up Cauthron with an RBI double, bringing in another run for the Bobcats.
The sixth inning was another show of offensive force by the Bobcats. Ohio scored five runs on two hits and one error. Nelson got Neuer on third with his second double of the game. Neuer then went on to score the first run of the inning off a wild pitch. With the bases full and back-to-back walks, Ohio was able to score two runs. Reed's 2RBI single brought in two more runs scored by Cauthron and Dolan.
Ohio led Toledo 16-4 heading into the seventh inning. Toledo was unable to score any runs in the bottom of the seventh, forcing the game to end due to the 10-run rule.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Toledo on Saturday, March 22. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
