TOLEDO, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (6-15, 2-6 MAC) fell to Toledo (7-14, 3-5 MAC) 7-3 on Saturday, March 22.
Ohio finished with three runs, nine hits and two errors. Toledo finished with seven runs, eight hits and two errors.
Graduate student Trenton Neuer (Nicholasville, Ky.) led the Bobcats going 3-for-4 at the plate in addition to scoring two runs and recording two RBIs. Freshman Matt Ineich (South Lyon, Mich.) went 2-for-4 at the plate, while sophomore JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) recorded one RBI.
Senior Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) started on the mound and pitched six innings. Boncal threw six strikeouts, allowed two hits and no runs on 20 at bats. Redshirt junior Dylan Eggl (Albion, Ind.) came in to pitch the seventh inning, striking out one batter while allowing one run on three hits. Three other pitches appeared on the mound after Eggl.
Neuer opened the third with a double to right field, and advanced to third on a Toledo throwing error. Nelson hit a sacrifice fly to bring Neuer home, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead after the third inning.
The Bobcats extended their lead in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Neuer, sending junior Dylan Shepherd (Barrie, Ontario) in to score.
Toledo went on to score seven unanswered runs, setting the score 7-2 after eight innings.
Neuer's strong day continued, hitting a home run in the top of the ninth for a final score of 7-3.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Toledo on Sunday, March 23. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
