ATHENS, Ohio— The Ohio football program is set to close the 2025 regular season on the road, taking on the Buffalo Bulls in a Black Friday matchup on Friday, Nov. 28. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET at UB Stadium and can be seen on ESPNU with Shawn Kenney and Ryan Cavanaugh on the call.
The Bobcats' matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield, presented by Holzer Health System. Veteran Ohio radio personality Marty Bannister is reprising his role as Ohio's play-by-play broadcaster. Bannister will be joined by color analyst Rob Cornelius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for more than two decades.
SERIES HISTORY VS. BUFFALO
The Bobcats first met the Bulls in 1949, posting a 19-11 record.Â
Ohio hosted Buffalo for the last Saturday game of the 2024 regular season, celebrating the seniors as well as NFF College Football Hall of Fame honoree Frank Solich with a dominant 47-16 victory. Defensive end Kadin Schmitz picked off Buffalo's two-point conversion attempt in the third quarter, taking the two points for the Bobcats after a quick 100-yard dash, and linebacker Shay Taylor rounded out the day with a pick-six.
SCOUTING BUFFALO
The Bulls are currently 5-6 overall, posting a 4-3 record against conference opponents.
As a team, Buffalo averages 23.82 points on 135.3 rushing yards and 225.27 passing yards per game. Coming off a 37-20 loss to the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks, Buffalo—along with Ohio— is one of five Mid-American Conference teams vying to punch its ticket to Detroit for the 2025 MAC Championship (Dec. 6).
Sixth year quarterback Ta'Quan Roberson leads the Bulls in the air, going 190-for-330 with 11 interceptions and 15 touchdowns on 2,250 yards. A dual threat, Roberson owns the fourth-most rushing yards on the team (113), claiming two of Buffalo's 13 rushing touchdowns on the season. Redshirt senior quarterback Gray Gunnar has appeared in five games this season; he is currently 29-for-53 with two interceptions and two touchdowns on 228 passing yards.Â
On the ground, senior running back Al-Jay Henderson leads the way with 724 net yards on 177 touches. Notably, Henderson leads the team in rushing touchdowns (5). Redshirt sophomore running back Lamar Sperling and sophomore running back Terrance Shelton, Jr. both own one touchdown apiece, trailing with 221 and 187 rushing yards, respectively. Along with Roberson, two other Bulls have scored two rushing touchdowns. Redshirt junior wide receiver Victor Snow and redshirt freshman running back James McNeil, Jr.Â
Redshirt junior wide receiver Nik McMilan has appeared in all 11 games for Buffalo this season, scoring three touchdowns on a team-best 859 receiving yards. Snow trails in yards with 733, but has found the endzone eight times on 58 receptions. Combined with his rushing touchdowns, Snow leads the Bulls with 11 total touchdowns and is second in total points (66). Redshirt senior wide receiver Jasaiah Gathings and redshirt freshman wide receiver Patrick Clacks III have each found the endzone twice, with Gathings logging 34 receptions and Clacks III grabbing 12 catches. Redshirt junior Chance Morrow and Henderson each own one receiving touchdown.Â
On the defensive side of the ball, graduate student linebacker Red Murdock leads the team in total tackles (128), solo tackles (45), assisted tackles (83), tackles for loss (13) and forced fumbles (6). He trails redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Junior Poyser in sacks— with Poyser logging 5.5 and Murdock claiming 4.5—and is one of two Bulls with two fumble recoveries on the season, sharing the No. 1 slot with redshirt senior edge Kobe Stewart. Junior linebacker Dion Crawford is second in total tackles (71); junior safety Miles Greer is on his heels with 67 tackles. Graduate student linebacker Mitchell Gonser and sixth year nickel Jalen McNair are responsible for four of the Bulls' six interceptions on the season, claiming two apiece.Â
Redshirt senior kicker Jack Howes is the team's leading scorer, logging 70 points on the season. He is 14-for-17 on field goals, with his longest hitting 50 yards, and 28-for-28 on PATs. Additionally, Howes has amassed 3,233 yards across 53 kickoffs. Redshirt freshman punter Dylan Drennan has accumulated 2,689 yards across 60 punts. Notably, his longest punt clocked in at 76 yards.
