PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

ATHENS, Ohio – It's officially the first 'Beat Miami' week of the year when volleyball hosts Miami in the Convo, while field hockey hosts Ball State for a Friday afternoon matchup. Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints, presented by Memorial Health System.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Oct. 6-7 / at 2025 Rocket Classic / Port Clinton, Ohio  Catawba Island Club / All Day / Live Results 

The Ohio women's golf team returns to action Oct. 6-7 for the 2025 Rocket Classic. The two-day event is hosted by Toledo at Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio. The event begins on Monday, Oct. 6 with two rounds, before wrapping up the weekend on Tuesday, Oct. 7 with the final 18 holes. 

Teams competing at this year's event are; Purdue Fort Wayne, Detroit Mercy, Toledo, Ohio and Indiana State. 

Competing for Ohio at this years event are senior Mackenzie McRee, juniors Morgan Rodgers and Zoe Luebbers, sophomore Saylor Wharff and Ally Turner and freshman Katie Husted

Ohio won last year's Rocket Classic with overall score of 906 (+42), while McRee earned the individual championship with a 221 (+5). 

Ohio last competed Sept. 15-16 at the 2025 Brittany Kelly Classic. The Bobcats finished in fourth overall. Luebbers led the Bobcats at the invitational, recording a round one score of 71 (-1), putting her in a good position for the second round in second place. In the second round, Luebbers shot a 75 (+3) and wrapped up day one in fourth place. On Tuesday morning, Luebbers was able to earn herself a top spot in the classic by shooting a 72 (E), placing her tied first. With the tie, Luebbers participated in a 4-hole playoff and ultimately fell to Ball State's Jasmine Driscoll in the round. In her efforts, Luebbers earned herself a spot on the All-Tournament team, finishing the Classic with a total score of 218 (+2).

The Ohio volleyball team (2-14, 0-4 MAC) is back in action for three MAC contests this week starting on Tuesday, Oct. 7 when Ohio travels to Kent, Ohio to take on Kent State (7-8, 2-2 MAC). First serve is set for 7 p.m. ET inside the M.A.C. Center and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio then returns to the Convocation Center Oct. 10-11 for the 'Battle of the Bricks.' Ohio will host Miami (9-7, 3-1 MAC) on Friday, oct. 10 at 6 p.m. ET, before wrapping up the weekend against the RedHawks on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. ET. Both matchup can be seen on ESPN+. 

Kent State is currently 7-8 overall witha. 2-2 mark in MAC play. The Flashes are coming off two wins this pat week, sweeping Buffalo on Friday before defeating Akron, 3-1, on Saturday at home. Miami is 9-7 overall with a 3-1 mark in conference play. Miami is coming off a split weekend, falling to Western Michigan at home, before returning the next night to defeat Northern Illinois. The RedHawks will take on Ball State at home on Tuesday before traveling to Athens.
 
Ohio is coming off a hard-fought weekend. Against Akron, Ohio finished with 71 kills, four aces, four blocks, 61 assists, 65 digs and recorded a team attack percentage of .251. Junior Torre Kildow and freshman Bailey Blair powered Ohio's offense, recording a team-high 18 kills each. Blair also recorded a team-best attack percentage of .516. Then against Buffalo, Ohio finished with 62 kills, nine aces, four blocks, 56 assists and 62 digs. Buffalo finished with 56 kills, four aces, six blocks, 53 assists and 60 digs. Junior Gentry Brown led Ohio's offense with 17 kills and 17.5 points.

The Ohio soccer team (3-6-4, 1-2-3 MAC) is back in Athens this week for two road MAC games as the Bobcats continue their way through October. Ohio opens the week on Thursday, Oct. 9 when the Bobcats head to Kent, Ohio to take on Kent State (5-4-4, 3-2-1). First touch is set for 7 p.m. ET at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium. Ohio is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 12 when they head to Toledo, Ohio to take on Toeldo (3-4-5, 0-3-3 MAC). First touch against the Rockets is set for 1 p.m. at Paul Hotmer Field and can be seen on ESPN+. 

Kent State is currently 5-4-4 overall and 3-2-1 in MAC play. The Flashes are coming off a 1-1 draw at home against Eastern Michigan on Thursday and a 2-1 victory.against Akron on Sunday in Akron. Meanwhile, Toledo is currently 3-4-5 overall and 0-3-3 in the MAC. This past week, Toledo tied Bowling Green, 0-0, at home before falling to Miami, 1-0 on the road on Sunday. 

Ohio is coming off a home loss to Ball State last Thursday at Chessa Field. 

FIELD HOCKEY
Oct. 10 / vs Ball State / Athens, Ohio / Pruitt Field / 12 p.m. ET / ESPN+ / Watch / Live Stats / Digital Guide

The Ohio field hockey team (3-9, 1-3 MAC) in action for another matchup on Pruitt when the Bobcats host Ball State (3-10, 1-3 MAC) for a MAC matchup on Friday, Oct. 10. First touch is set for 12 p.m. ET at Pruitt Field and can be seen on ESPN+. 

Ball State is currently 3-10 overall with a 1-3 mark in conference play. The Cardinals are currently on a five-game losing streak and is coming off a 5-0 lass at Richmond last Sunday. 

Ohio is coming off a 1-1 week where it took overtime in both matchups to determine a winner, with the Bobcats picking up the 2-1 OT victory over Queens on Sunday in Athens on Senior Day. With just over three minutes to go in the first overtime period, junior Natalie LaFleur took to the net on a breakaway and making the diving play to score the game-winning goal to give Ohio the 2-1 victory. Senior Anouk Plaehn scored the Bobcats first goal of the day late in the first period, picking up two more points on her senior day. 

BASEBALL
Oct. 10 / vs. Marshall / Athens, Ohio / Bob Wren Stadium / 2 p.m. ET 

The Ohio baseball team takes the field at Bob Wren Stadium for the first time under new head coach Andrew See on Friday, Oct. 10 when the Bobcats host Marshall for a scrimmage. Gametime is set for 2 p.m. ET at Bob Wren Stadium and admission is free to all fans.

The Ohio softball team wraps up its fall schedule this weekend, playing four games in two days. Ohio begins the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the 2025 Play for Hope Charity Classic in Columbus, Ohio. The Bobcats will take on Mount Vernon Nazarene at 10 a.m., before wrapping up the day against Case Western at 12:30 p.m. ET. Both games will take place at Buckeye Field. 

Ohio wraps up the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 12 when they host Salem University for a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. ET, with game two to follow after at the Ohio Softball Field. Admission is free to all fans for the Sunday doubleheader.
