ATHENS, Ohio – It's Football Spring Game Week, while softball wraps up a four-game homestand on Wednesday! Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints, presented by Memorial Health System.

FOOTBALL

The 2026 Ohio Football Spring game, presented by Conn's, is set to take place on Saturday, April 18, at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium. The day will include a number of events outlined below. Make sure you head to Athens for an exciting Saturday at the stadium!

The Ohio softball team (28-15, 11-7 MAC) plays its final non-conference opponent in Athens this week, before continuing MAC play on the road. The week begins on Wednesday, April 15, when the Bobcats host Marshall (32-10, 13-2 SBC). First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. ET at the Ohio Softball Field and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio then heads to Kent, Ohio, April 17-18 for a three-game series with Kent State (17-22, 7-11 MAC). The weekend begins with a single game on Friday starting at 3 p.m. ET, before wrapping up with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at Devine Diamond. 

Ohio is coming off a 4-2 week that saw Ohio take the series from Miami and Bowling Green. Senior Shelby Westler hit .440 with 11 hits in 25 at-bats. She scored three runs, had four doubles, three home runs, a grand slam and had 19 RBI. She recorded a 1.400 OPS as well as a .960 slugging percentage and a .440 on-base percentage. She recorded 24 total bases and in the field, recorded six putouts, seven assists and did not record an error for a 1.000 fielding percentage. 

Marshall is currently 32-10 overall and 13-2 in the Sun Belt and are coming off a sweep of Coastal Carolina last weekend in Conway, S.C. Sydni Burko is hitting .412 with 54 hits, eight doubles, 16 home runs and 36 RBI, while Ava Blake is batting .333 with 41 hits, two doubles, one triple, 14 home runs and 34 RBI. In the circle, Paige Maynard is 10-3 overall, allowing 31 earned runs in 84.2 innings, while walking 27 and striking out 41. 

Kent State is currently 17-22 overall and 7-11 in MAC play and is coming off being swept at NIU this past weekend. Ashlyn Porter is batting .360 with 41 hits, seven doubles and 13 RBI, while Aaralyn Nogay is hitting .347 with 43 hits, three doubles, five triples, two home runs and 17 RBI. In the circle, Riley Miller is 8-8 overall, allowing 82 earned runs, while walking 34 and striking out 53.

The Ohio baseball team (7-28, 4-14 MAC) is back in action for four games this week. The week begins on Tuesday, April 14, when Ohio heads to Highland Heights, Ky., to take on Northern Kentucky (15-19, 6-6 Horizon). First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex. Ohio then heads to Mount Pleasant, Mich., to take on MAC foe Central Michigan (13-18, 7-11 MAC). The weekend begins on Friday, April 17, at 3 p.m. ET at Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium. The Bobcats and CMU will square off on Saturday, April 18 at 3 p.m. ET, before wrapping up the series on Sunday, April 19, at 1 p.m. ET. 

Ohio is coming off a week that saw the Bobcats go to Oxford, Ohio, on Friday and defeat Miami, 7-6, on the road. Graduate student designated hitter Colton Shirly helped lead the Ohio baseball team this past week. Overall, Shirley hit .400 with six hits in 15 at-bats. He recorded one triple, three RBI and scored four runs for Ohio, while recording a .533 slugging percentage. He has been hit by a pitch twice, while adding a .471 on-base percentage

Northern Kentucky is 15-19 overall and 6-6 in the Horizon League and is coming off a series win against UNCG last weekend at home. Marcus Harrison leads NKU with a .319 batting average, recording 35 hits, six doubles, one home run and 22 RBI, while Jake Paulick adds a .304 average with 34 hits, six doubles, eight home runs and 29 RBI. On the mound, Ryan Gill has a 1.86 ERA in 9.2 innings of work, allowing two earned runs. 

CMU is 13-18 overall and 7-11 in MAC play and is coming off a series win at BG this past weekend and will take on Milwaukee and Youngstown State before hosting Ohio this weekend. Bryson Webb leads CMU with a .323 average, recording 32 hits, 11 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 16 RBI, while Harrison Bowman is hitting .315 with 41 hits, 10 doubles, nine home runs and 36 RBI. On the mound, Hayden Bailey has a 4.50 ERA, allowing 22 earned runs on 43 hits, while walking 23 and striking out 35. 

TRACK AND FIELD

The Ohio track and field team is back in action April 16-17 for the 2026 Wake Forest Invitational. The two-day event will take place in Winston Salem, N.C. at Kenter Stadium. Thursday's events are set to begin at 2 p.m ET, with Friday set for 10 a.m. ET.  

The Bobcats are coming off a strong showing at the 2026 We Fly Challenge at Ball State this past weekend. The women's 4x400m relay team, comprised of junior Jada Irwin, freshman Sydney Huckstep, freshman Alyvia Mentlow and sophomore Ava Kincaid, won the event with a season-best time of 3:44.92. The time is the third-fastest outdoor 4x400m relay time in program history.

Freshman Aubree Beery kicked off the meet with a second-place finish in the women's hammer throw. Beery recorded a mark of 51.25 meters (168-2). Sophomore Lauren Mader earned second place in the women's discus with a PR of 47.18 meters (154-9). Two Bobcats set new PR's in the women's 400m hurdles. Freshman Zoey Caldwell finished ninth with a PR of 1:04.54 and sophomore Elisabeth Francyzk finished 11th with a PR of 1:04.73. Junior Abby Wells led Ohio in the women's 800m, placing sixth overall with a time of 2:20.84.

WOMEN'S GOLF
April 17-18 / 2026 Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational / Columbus, Ohio / Ohio State University Golf Club / All Day / Live Results 

The Ohio women's golf team is back in action for one final tuneup before the MAC Championships this week, when they head to Columbus, Ohio, April 17-18 for the 2026 Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event will take place at the Ohio State University Golf Club.

Teams competing at the 2026 Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational are: Indiana, Kent State, Rutgers, Michigan State, Northwestern, Youngstown State, Iowa State, Ball State, Western Michigan, Ohio State, Xavier, Harvard, Toledo and Ohio. 

Ohio is coming off a weekend at the 2026 Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge. Morgan Rodgers led the Bobcats' efforts all week, being the highest finishing Bobcat on all three days. Rodgers led things off on day one, shooting a 75(+4) and finishing the day tied for 29th place. During the second day of the Challenge, Rodgers shot an impressive 73 (+2) and ended the day tied for 24th place. During round three, Rodges would shoot an 81(+10), finishing tied for 40th overall, with a total score of 229 (+16).

The Bobcats also sent three Bobcats to the ODU NC4k Classic. Saylor Wharff finished tied for 10th after two rounds of play, with an overall score of 159 (+15). On day one of the competition, Wharff shot an 80 (+8) and ended the day tied seventh. In round two of the Classic, Wharff shot a 79 (+7) and concluded tied for 10th.
