HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Ohio field hockey team (5-12, 3-6 MAC) wrapped up the 2025 regular season Friday afternoon (Oct. 31), falling to James Madison (11-7, 6-3 MAC), 3-1 at the James Madison Field Hockey Complex. With the results of the rest of the games in the conference, the Bobcats clinched a spot to the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championship next week in Harrisonburg.

Overall, Ohio scored one goal on six shots with five on goal, while JMU registered three goals and 10 shots with five on goal. JMU recorded four saves to Ohio's two, while the Dukes registered seven penalty corners to the Bobcats' three.

Individually, freshman Tiana Nhamoinesu (Thirsk, North Yorkshire) recorded a goal on three shots with three on goal. Senior Anouk Plaehn (Hanover, Germany) added two shots with one on goal, while sophomore Zoe Collins (Carlisle, Pa.) registered one shot on goal.

In goal, sophomore Ash Stephenson (Kingston Upon Hull, England) got the start and played all 60 minutes, allowing three goals and making two saves on 10 shots faced.

The Bobcats recorded the first chance of the day in the sixth minute after Plaehn registered a shot off a penalty corner, however, the JMU defense would block the attempt. Five minutes later, the Dukes recorded back-to-back penalty corners that the Ohio defense was able to block themselves. Moments later, Collins recorded a shot on goal, forcing a JMU save, keeping the score at 0-0 going into the second period.

JMU entered the second quarter on fire in the offensive end, recording three penalty corners over the next four minutes, before capitalizing in the 10^th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

At the half, Ohio recorded three shots with two on goal, while James Madison added six shots. Ohio registered two penalty corners, while JMU added five.

The Dukes added on quickly in the third quarter, scoring in the 32^nd minutes and in the 34^th minute to give JMU the 3-0 lead headed into the fourth. Nhamoinesu registered a shot on goal early in the fourth quarter that was saved by JMU to keep the Bobcats off the board. After another attempt from Nhamoinesu was saved, she was able to get the Bobcats on the board with a penalty stroke in the 59^th minute, cutting the JMU score to 3-1, which would be the final score.
