ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (6-7, 3-3 MAC) returned home on Friday (Oct. 16) to face off against James Madison (6-6, 5-1 MAC) at Pruitt Field, falling to the Dukes, 6-0.  Â
Overall, Ohio recorded four shots on goal and had eight penalty corners, while James Madison scored six goals on eight shots on goal and five penalty corners. Â
Individually, junior back Deborah James (Hertfordshire, England) had four shots with two of them coming on goal, while junior midfielder Marie De Grande (Groot-Bijgaarden, Belgium) had two shots and a shot on goal. Sophomore forward Karley DuCoin (Turnersville, NJ) had a shot on goal as well. Â
In goal, junior Molly Schreiner (State College, Pa) made two saves in 60 minutes of action. Â
The Dukes jumped out of the gates fast and got the board early in the first period, scoring their first goal with a little over two minutes gone in the first quarter and their second goal just 30 seconds later to take a 2-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.Â
James Madison got a penalty corner with four minutes left in the first and capitalized, scoring to make it 3-0. That lead would hold until the end of the quarter.Â
Halfway through the second period, the Dukes scored again, making it 4-0, a lead they would take into halftime.Â
The Bobcats offense took control early in the third quarter, earning penalty corners and getting shots on goal that would force the JMU keeper to make two-back-to-back saves to keep Ohio off the board. Â
James Madison made a push to score toward the end of the period, but it was unable to add to its lead before the third quarter ended with the score still at 4-0. Â
In the final frame, Ohio again took penalty corners and got shots up on goal, but the James Madison goalkeeper was there to make the saves that were needed, while the Dukes offense put two goals on the board, ending the game with a score of 6-0.Â
Up next, Ohio heads back on the road on Sunday, Oct. 18 when they head to Farmville, Va. To take on Longwood. First touch is set for Noon ET and can be seen on ESPN+. Â
