CLEVELAND -- Ohio swimming junior
Zita Szoke was named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week for her performance the week of Oct. 20, the league announced this afternoon (Oct. 28).
Szoke (Serbia, Becej) swam in six total events for the Bobcats in their season-opening tri-meet against Marshall and Buffalo, placing first in all six events. Her efforts helped Ohio defeat Buffalo, 213-140 and Marshall, 247-106.
Szoke opened the weekend on Friday in the 200 free relay, with the Bobcats' 'A' team placing first with a time of 1:30.78. In the 100 free, Szoke cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 48.03, before wrapping up the night in the 400-yard medley relay, where the Ohio 'A' team placed first with a time of 3:38.50.
Szoke was back in action on Saturday morning, placing first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:38.94. In the 50 free, Szoke placed first in 22.46, while also claiming the top spot in the 400 free relay, where the Ohio 'A' team finished first with a time of 3:20.51.
Szoke's times in the 50-yard free and 100-yard free lead the conference, and rank her 32nd in the 50-yard free, and ranked 8th for the 100-yard free in the NCAA.
Szoke and Ohio are back in action on Friday, Nov. 7 at Ball State. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET.
