YORKTOWN, Ind. – The Ohio women's golf team delivered an impressive performance in their second tournament of the fall season, finishing second overall and among the Mid-American Conference teams at the Brittany Kelly Classic hosted by Ball State on Sept. 16-17 at the Players Club. The Bobcats recorded an overall score of 889 (+25), with senior
Sydney Longstreth tying for 5th place.
Ball State (+14) claimed the top spot, followed by the Bobcats, while Butler (+30), Dayton (+35), and Western Michigan (+37) rounded out the top five.
As a team, Ohio opened the first round with a score of 308, before bouncing back on Monday to shoot a 292. The Bobcats concluded the tournament on Tuesday with a stellar 289, marking the lowest round of the day out of all 12 teams.The round of 289 also tied the Bobcats with Ball State for the tournament low round, which the Cardinals shot in the second round on Monday.
Individually, Longstreth (Carmel, Ind.) led the Bobcats, posting rounds of 76 and 71 on day one, before finishing Tuesday with a 72 for a total tournament score of 219 (+3), earning her a five-way tie for fifth place.
Sophomore Morgan Rodgers (Centerville, Ohio) followed closely, tying for 11th after shooting scores of 76 and 73 on Monday, then concluding the event with a 72 for a total of 221 (+5). Sophomore Zoe Lubbers (Cincinnati, Ohio) secured tied for 14th with scores of 78, 73, and 72, finishing with a seven-over total of 223.
Junior Mackenzie McRee (Tucson, Ariz.) finished tied for 19th, opening the tournament with a 78, before posting a 75 in round two and a 73 in round three, finishing the event with a score of 226 (+10). In her collegiate debut, freshman Ally Turner (Miamisburg, Ohio) earned a tie for 52nd, shooting scores of 81 and 76 on day one, before concluding Tuesday with an 81 for a three-round total of 238 (+22).
Competing as an individual, freshman Saylor Wharff (Marietta, Ohio) finished in a tie for 46th. Wharff opened the tournament with a score of 79 in round one, followed by a 77 and an 80 in the final two rounds, totaling 236 (+20).
The Bobcats will return to action on Sept. 30 - Oct. 1 at the 2024 Rocket Classic Invitational. The two-day event will be hosted by Toledo at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio.
