ATHENS, Ohio – It's officially summer in Athens and that means it's MAC Championship time for softball and outdoor track and field. Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints.
SOFTBALL

Ohio softball (30-22, 18-8 MAC) head to the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament this week, May 8-11 in Akron, Ohio. After a four-year hiatus, the MAC TOurnament has returned to a neutral site in Firestone Stadium. The six-team, double elimination tournament begins on May 8. The Bobcats enter the tournament as the second seed, therefore earning a first round bye. The Bobcats open play on Thursday, May 9 against either No. 3 Western Michigan or No. 6 Ball State. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. EST and can be seen on ESPN+. With a win, Ohio would move into the winners bracket and return to action on Friday, May 10 at Noon.
Ohio is coming off a 4-0 week that saw Ohio sweep Akron and Bowling Green to close out the season with 30 overall wins.

The Ohio track and field team heads to DeKalb, Ill. for the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships May 9-11 at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex on the campus of Northern Illinois. Competition begins on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m., resume on Friday, May 10 at 12 p.m. and will conclude on Saturday, May 11 at 1:30 p.m.
Ohio is coming off a weekend at the WVU Last Chance Meet on May 4. Juniors
Millie Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) and
Jasmine Correa (Holland, Mich.) competed in several field events for Ohio. Ryan placed second in the women's shot put (12.30m/40-4.25) and fifth in the discus (36.01m/118-2). Correa finished 10
th in the women's hammer throw (35.84m/117-7) and placed seventh in the discus (30.44m/99-10). Freshmen
Elinor Shuttleworth (Beavercreek, Ohio) won the women's 400m with a time of 58.62 while
Jada Irwin (Hamilton, Ohio) placed third with a time of 59.20.

Ohio baseball (14-28, 9-15 MAC) is back in action for their final road games of the 2024 regular season this week. Ohio begins the week on Wednesday, May 8 when the Bobcats head to Huntington, W. Va. to take on Marshall (15-32). First pitch is set for 6 p.m. inside McKie Field at Hayden Park and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio then heads to Oxford, Ohio May 10-12 for their final MAC road series of the season when they take on Miami (24-20, 16-11 MAC) in a three-game series. The series begins on Friday, May 10 at 3 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday's contests set to start at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed on Box.
