WESTFIELD, Ind. – This afternoon, the Ohio Men's Golf team wrapped up the opening day of the 2024 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships. After the first round, the Bobcats are in a tie for eighth with a score of 299 (+11). Individually, senior Jack Neville (Terrace Park, Ohio) leads the team after a first round of 73 (+1).
The tournament is being held at The Club at Chatham Hills, which for the first round played at a yardage of 7,180 yards. In the team leaderboard, Ball State and Miami are tied for the lead after opening rounds of 283 (-5). Individually, Toledo's Barend Botha finished the day in first with a 67 (-5).
Neville's 73 (+1) was the Bobcats best score by two strokes, finishing the day in a tie for 17th. The senior had a busy scorecard, compiling two double bogeys, two bogeys, but had five impressive birdies. Only six golfers had more birdies than Neville on the day.
Both in a tie for 25th, sophomore Carson Trafford (Dublin, Ohio) and junior Matt Daulton (Lebanon, Ohio) had opening rounds of 75 (+3). Trafford had two birdies on the day while Daulton was one of seven golfers to record an eagle.
The Bobcats fifth best finisher was junior Sam Hogan (Burlington, Canada) who finished the day in a tie for 33rd. Hogan, who had a 76 (+4) on the day, had 13 pars, tied for second in the first round.
Rounding out the opening day for Ohio, sophomore Will Kates (Centennial, Colo.) finished in a tie for 39th. The sophomore had a score of 78 (+6) on the day, while recording one birdie.
Ohio will look to climb the leaderboard tomorrow at the second round of the 2024 MAC Championships. Tee times for the second round will begin at 9:00 a.m.
