MONTGOMERY, TEXAS—The Ohio Men's Golf Team kicked off the spring season on Monday and Tuesday (Feb 9-10) at the Bentwater Intercollegiate at Bentwater Country Club, hosted by Sam Houston State.
The Bobcats finished seventh with a team score of 874 (+22). The team title was shared by VCU and hosts Sam Houston State, both finishing with team scores of 857 (+5).
Senior
Nathaniel Gray Lamont (Guelph, Ontario) led the way for the Bobcats, firing a two under par 69 in the opening round, followed up by a three under 68 in Monday's second round to hold a solo lead after 36 holes of the tournament at -5. Gray Lamont saw red for much of the day, carding 11 total birdies and an eagle across 36 holes. Lamont shot 76 in Tuesday's third round to finish at an even par 213 for the tournament, and good for a T-4 finish.
Following for the Bobcats was fellow senior
Jack O'Donnell (Powell, Ohio), who was steady across all 54 holes with scores of 71 and 72 in Monday's first and second rounds, followed by a closing 74 in Tuesday's second round. O'Donnell finished at a four over 217 for the tournament, tied for 18
th on the individual leaderboard.
Senior
Will Kates (Centennial, Co.) was one of Tuesday's biggest movers, using a three under par round of 68 in Tuesday's third round to vault 29 spots up the individual leaderboard and finish at T-27. Overall, Kates shot rounds of 74, 77, and 78 to finish at a six over par 219, good for a T-27 finish.
Senior
Carson Trafford (Dublin, Ohio) shot rounds of 76 and 79 in Monday's first and second rounds, and followed with a 78 in Monday's third and final round for a total score of 233 (+20), and a T-68 finish.
Rounding out the week for the Bobcats was freshman
Jack Flores ( Worthington, Ohio), who rebounded from a first round 81 on Monday with an even par 71 in the day's second round. Flores closed with a final round 82 for a total score of 234 and T-70 finish.
The Bobcats return to action March 9-11 when they travel to Southern Pines, N.C. to compete at the Donald Ross Collegiate, hosted by George Mason. Stay tuned to ohiobobcats.com for live scoring and results!
