DAYTON, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (10-22, 6-13 MAC) fell 7-5 to the Dayton Flyers (24-13, 7-3 A10) on Wednesday, April 17.

The Bobcats were led by Graduate Student Bryce Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.). Smith has one run on two hits and recorded all five of Ohio's RBIs, highlighted by a grand slam. Freshman JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) had another impressive outing with two runs on two hits. Senior Gideon Antle (Licking, Mo.) also had two hits and recorded one run.

Sophomore Landon Price (Middle Point, Ohio) started the game on the mound, allowed six runs, three hits and walked three batters. Junior Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) quickly took over for Price in the first, allowing one run on three hits in two innings pitched. Junior Adam Beery (Ravenna, Ohio) pitched three innings, giving up two hits and no runs and walked one batter and struck out two.

The Bobcats got the scoring started in the top of the first. JR Nelson opened the game with a double to left center to get him into scoring position. A one-RBI single drove Nelson home to give Ohio an early lead. Dayton quickly answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs to take a commanding lead.

Dayton added a run in the second, setting the score at 7-1. After a scoreless four innings, the Bobcat offense produced four runs in the seventh. Smith walked up to the plate with the bases loaded looking to cut into the deficit. Smith sent the ball flying over the right fence for a grand slam to get Ohio within two runs.

The scoring halted for the Bobcats and they went on to lose the game, 7-5.
