Ohio Track & Field Concludes Annual Cherry Blossom Invitational

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's track & field team concluded its annual Cherry Blossom Invitational on Saturday, April 13.
The team hosted a ceremony to recognize the following eight members of their senior class: Jordan Baith (Seville, Ohio), Kassidy Betzing (Pomeroy, Ohio), Imani Brown (Crown Point, Ind.), Sophia Hoersten (Hilliard, Ohio), Kenna Loveless (Tallmadge, Ohio), Taniah Stephens (Eerie, Pa.), Tony Tonkovich (Athens, Ohio) and Carina Weaver (Lexington, Ohio)
Ohio kicked off the day with women's 4x100m relay. The relay team, comprised of junior Taja Booker (Simpsonville, S.C.), freshman Jordyn Baxter (Atlanta, Ga.), sophomore Rhiea Gordon (Youngstown, Ohio) and senior Taniah Stephens (Eerie, Pa.), placed second with a time of 46.97. The second relay team, comprised of sophomores Paris Gosha-Foreman (Twinsburg, Ohio), Maggie Stewart (Worthington, Ohio), freshmen Jael Sykes (Hatfield, Pa.) and Jada Irwin (Hamilton, Ohio), took home fourth place with a time of 48.50.
Three Bobcats placed in the top 10 of the women's 1500m. Senior Kenna Loveless (Tallmadge, Ohio) took home seventh (4:51.61), sophomore Morgan Roth (Brunswick, Ohio) followed behind in eighth (4:51.97, PR) and freshman Eliza Streit finished in 10th place (5:00.76).
Freshman Gracie Smith (Grove City, Ohio) represented Ohio in the 100m hurdles with a first-place time of 15.94.
Ohio took home the top three spots in the women's 400m. Freshman Ella Baker (Amherst, Ohio) placed first (57.55), Booker came in second (58.32) and Irwin placed third (58.45).
Stephens led Ohio in the women's 100m with a first-place time of 12.26. Gordon (12.81) and Sykes (13.10) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Four Bobcats set new PR's in the women's 800m. Sophomore Sara Doughman (South Lebanon, Ohio) won the event with a personal-best time of 2:12.77. Sophomore Sophie Besett (Twinsburg, Ohio) placed fifth (2:15.14, PR), freshmen Elinor Shuttleworth (Beavercreek, Ohio) came in seventh (2:17.78, PR) and Abby Wells (Hilliard, Ohio) finished in 10th place (2:18.74, PR).
Ohio earned four of the top 10 spots in the women's 200m. Booker placed second (24.91), Stephen took home third (25.15), Baker placed fifth (25.23) and Irwin finished seventh (25.62).
Freshmen Abigail Cornell (Wake Forest, N.C.) and Emilee Baumann (Powell, Ohio) tied for fifth in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.20 meters (10-6).
Junior Millie Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) placed third in the women's shot put with a mark of 12.34 meters (40-5.75). Senior Jordan Baith (Seville, Ohio) finished seventh with a mark of 11.43 meters (37-6).
Freshman Saydee Resnik (Greensburg, Pa.) won the women's javelin with a personal-best mark of 35.57 meters (116-8). Senior Kassidy Betzing (Pomeroy, Ohio) placed second with a career-best mark of 35.02 meters (114-11).
The Bobcats will be back in action at the Jesse Owens Track Classic on Friday, April 19.
