RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Ohio women's golf team wrapped up play today (Feb. 25) at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational hosted by Western Michigan. The Bobcats finished in 11th place behind a strong performance from freshman Morgan Rodgers (Centerville, Ohio).Â
The Bobcats competed in a field of 21 teams including seven other Mid-American Conference schools. Ohio finished second out of the eight MAC competitors, while Cal Baptist took home the title, shooting 865 (+1) as a team.Â
Leading the way was Morgan Rodgers who shot rounds of 72 (E), 73 (+1), and 75 (+3). Her total of 220 (+4) placed her in a tie for 24th overall. Rodgers was extremely consistent over the three rounds, recording just seven bogeys over the three days.Â
Just behind Rodgers were sophomore Mackenzie McRee (Tucson, Arizona) and senior Mariana Vega-Rivera (Reynoldsburg, Ohio). Playing in her home state, McRee had a strong performance with rounds of 74 (+2), 76 (+4), and 75 (+3). She finished in tie for 46th alongside Vega-Rivera with total scores of 225 (+9). Vega-Rivera had rounds of 76 (+4), 74 (+2), and 75 (+3) over the three days.Â
Freshman Zoe Luebbers (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished as the fourth Bobcat on the leaderboard and tied for 55th overall. The freshman had rounds of 80 (+8), 71 (-1), and 77 (+6), totaling 228 (+12). Her second round of 71 was her lowest score in a single round this season.Â
Rounding out the performances for Ohio was junior Sydney Longstreth (Carmel, Indiana). Longstreth's three rounds were 81 (+9), 70 (-2), and 78 (+6). She totaled a score of 229 (+12) and placed in a tie for 59th. Longstreth's second round of 70 was the best round by a Bobcat golfer this season.Â
Ohio will look to capitalize on the momentum from Rio Verde at the Bama Beach Bash. The tournament, hosted by UAB, will take place from Mar. 17-19 at Gulf Shores Country Club in Gulf Shores, Alabama.Â
