Box Score NASHVILLE, TENN.— Ohio Baseball (2-1) was unable to complete the series sweep over Lipscomb (1-2) Sunday (Feb. 18), falling to the Bisons 8-3.
Individually, the Bobcats were led by senior
Gideon Antle (Licking, Mo.) who hit two home runs on 3-for-4 batting. Freshman
Pauly Mancino (Wesltake, Ohio) went 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles.
On the mound, junior
Blake Gaskey (Davenport, Iowa) started the game, throwing 3.2 innings. Gaskey allowed three runs on six hits, striking out five batters. Gaskey was replaced by junior
Dillon Masters (New Albany, Ohio), who threw for 2.1 innings, allowing two runs.
Redshirt junior
Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill.) would finish the game, pitching the last two innings.
The Bobcats scored quickly when Antle blasted a home run to left field, his first home run of the season. Neither team would score throughout the rest of the first or second innings. That was until the top of the third, when Antle connected with another ball at the plate and sent his second home run in three innings over the left field wall to double the Bobcat lead.
Despite Antle's efforts, the Bisons were able to homer twice in the bottom of the fourth, bringing them a 2-3 lead after the inning. Lipscomb would continue to score, having two more runs come through in the bottom of the 5
th.
Neither team would generate runs until the Bobcats were able to cut into the Lipscomb lead during the top of the 8
th. With two outs, the Bisons committed an error which allowed junior
Wes Lug (Huntersville, N.C.) to score after getting hit by a pitch. After getting within two, the Bobcats' deficit grew in the bottom of the inning. Lipscomb knocked a three-run home run over the left field wall to expand the lead to 3-8 after eight innings.
With their backs against the wall, fifth year
Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) was able to single up the center and Antle was able to get on base with two outs in the 9
th. But, this effort would not result in a score as the Bisons were able to close the door on the Bobcats' perfect record so far.
