
Women's Track & Field Finishes Marshall Invite with Record-Breaking Performance

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Ohio women's track and field team recorded several personal bests and top performances on its second day of competition at the Marshall Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Ohio's day was highlighted by the women's 4x400m relay team's record-breaking performance. Freshman Ella Baker (Amherst, Ohio), junior Taja Booker (Simpsonville, S.C.), freshman Jada Irwin (Hamilton, Ohio) and freshman Elinor Shuttleworth (Beavercreek, Ohio) placed first in the event with a time of 3:49.97.

Ohio kicked off the day with three athletes competing in the women's shot put. Junior Millie Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) placed third with a mark of 12.78 meters (41-11.25), senior Jordan Baith (Seville, Ohio) earned an eighth-place mark of 11.85 meters (38-10.50) and junior Jasmine Correa (Holland, Mich.) finished ninth with a mark of 11.72 meters (38-5.50).

Freshmen Jordyn Baxter (Atlanta, Ga.) and Gracie Smith (Grove City, Ohio) both competed in the women's long jump and earned personal-best marks. Baxter placed fifth (5.23m/17-2) and Smith finished in 11th place (4.98m/16-4.25).

Smith also qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 9.29. She finished seventh overall in the finals with a time of 9.32.

Graduate student Taniah Stephens (Eerie, Pa.) and Booker qualified for the 60-meter finals. Stephens (7.85P/7.82F) finished seventh and Booker (7.86P/7.82F) finished eighth overall. Booker also finished in 10th place in the 200m with a time of 25.51.

Freshman Abby Freda (Arvada, Colo.) ran a personal-best time of 5:30.88 in the mile, finishing in 10th place.

Three first-year Bobcats ran personal-best times and placed in the top five of the women's 400m. Baker took home second place with a time of 56.82, Irwin placed fourth with a time of 57.98 and Shuttleworth came in fifth place with a time of 58.21.

Sophomore Sophie Besett (Twinsburg, Ohio) came in fifth place in the women's 800m with a personal-best time of 2:16.21.

Five Bobcats placed in the top 10 of the women's 3,000 meters. Junior Sarah Liederbach (Petoskey, Mich.) led Ohio with a second place and a personal-best time of 10:03.69. Following in fifth and sixth place was sophomore Morgan Roth (Brunswick, Ohio/10:17.55) and Eliza Streit (Plain City, Ohio/10:24.29) with personal-best performances. Senior Kenna Loveless (Tallmadge, Ohio) placed eighth with a time of 10:34.01 and Avril Moyer (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) finished in ninth place with a time of 10:36.36.

The Bobcats will be back in action at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Friday, Feb. 23.
