Garrett Thompson Wins MAC West Division Wrestler of the Week

CLEVELAND - Redshirt junior Garrett Thomspon (Murrysville, Pa.) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Wrestler of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Thompson secured a 3rd place finish in the 174-pound class at the 2024 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, ranking him 23rd in the nation. He began the tournament with an impressive 8-1 victory over 8th seed Jared Simma (University of Northern Iowa) and then defeated top-seeded Cade DeVos (South Dakota State) 10-7 in the quarterfinals, elevating his ranking to 21st.
Although he faced #4 seed Lorenzo Norman (Stanford) in the semifinals and lost 10-6, Thompson rebounded in the consolation bracket by dominating #7 seed Brevin Cassella (Binghamton) 11-1, and clinched the bronze medal with a 10-7 victory over #6 seed Simon Ruiz (Cornell). His notable performance underscores his determination and potential as a rising contender in collegiate wrestling.
Ohio will be back in action for their next dual meet against Drexel on Tuesday, Dec. 17 in Philadelphia, Pa. The dual is set to begin at 1 p.m.
