ATHENS, Ohio – Five members of the Ohio track and field team were named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced.
Madelyn Bartolone,
Alyssa Christian,
Emily McKenzie,
Autumn Mohan and
Stephanie Pierce all earned the honor.
Bartolone (Massillon, Ohio), a Studio Art and Studio Art Therapy major with a 3.881 GPA, represented Ohio in the 5,000m race at the 2023 MAC Outdoor Championships, crossing the line in 17.57.04. She placed third in the 1500m at the Mountaineer Twilight with a time of 4:47.49 and finished 13th at Jesse Owens Classic in the 5000m with a time of 17.29.01. Bartolone was also named Cross Country and Indoor Academic All-MAC.
Christian (Newark, Ohio), a Psychology, English Cultures, Rhet & Theory major with a 3.970 GPA, ran personal bests in the 5k and 6k this cross-country season. She recorded 19.29.4 in the 5k and 21:33.5 in the 6k. Additionally, she ran personal bests in the mile (4:58.39) and 800 (2:17.21) this past indoor season. Christian was named Cross Country and Indoor Academic All-MAC and was named the Ohio's female MAC Medal of Excellence recipient.
McKenzie (Dillsburg, Pa.), a Communication Sciences & Disorders with a 3.904 GPA, recorded a personal best in the triple jump at the 2023 MAC Outdoor Championships with a jump of 11.85m. Placed sixth at Mountaineer Twilight in the javelin with a jump of 5.30m and placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 11.48. McKenzie also placed seventh in the triple jump at the Jesse Owens Classic with a jump of 11.49m and was named Indoor Academic All-MAC.
Mohan (Chillicothe, Ohio), a Health and Physical Education with a 3.715 GPA, placed sixth in discus at 2023 MAC Outdoor Championships with a throw of 44.83. She also placed seventh in shot put at MAC Outdoor Championships with a throw of 13.72. At the Mountaineer Twilight, Mohan placed first in shot out (12.86m), third in discus (39.89m) and fourth in hammer throw (43.42m). She was also named Indoor Academic All-MAC.
Pierce (Fairborn, Ohio), a Physical Therapy major with a 3.853 GPA, reached the podium twice at the 2023 MAC Outdoor Championships. She finished fifth in the 1500m run, clocking in with a time of 4:28.32. Pierce also ran in the 800m race, crossing the finish line at 2:10.77 for a fourth-place finish. At the Drake Relays, Pierce ran a personal best in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:28.10 and placed fourth in the mile at MAC Indoor with a time of 4:58.09. Named Cross Country and Indoor Academic All-MAC.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All- America® honorees will be announced June 28. Voting for the Academic All-America at-large teams begins today at noon ET and closes Wednesday June 7, at 11:59 pm ET.
