Women's Golf Names Three to Academic All-MAC List

CLEVELAND, Ohio --
The Mid-American Conference announced this morning (5/25) the 2023 Women's Golf Academic All-MAC Team. A total of 40 student-athletes were named to this year's squad. Ohio had a total of three nominated  for the honor. Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

The three Bobcats named to the 2023 list are: sophomore Thanya Arasu (St. Johns, Florida), sophomore Sydney Longstreth (Carmel, Indiana), and senior Avery Ovens (Wiloughby Hills, Ohio). 

Thanya Arasu competed in eleven events for Ohio during the 2022-23 season, playing a total of 33 rounds. Arasu recorded a 79.91 stroke average, shooting her lowest round of 71 in the first round of the Falcon Florida Classic. Thanya's best finish was T32 when competing in the Shirley Spork Invitational earlier this season. On the academic side, Thanya is majoring in Biological Sciences with a 3.6 GPA.

Next for the Bobcats is Sydney Longstreth, competing  in ten events for Ohio during the 2022-23 season. In her 30 rounds played, she recorded an average stroke of 78.73 with her lowest round of 73 being in round two of the Falcon Florida Classic. Longstreth's best finish was T11 when competing at the MAC Championships in Kalamazoo. Sydney has an impressive 3.8 GPA and is studying nursing. 

The third golfer named to the list for Ohio is Avery Ovens. Ovens holds a 3.7 GPA and is majoring in Journalism and Strategic Communications. Throughout this season, Ovens has played in ten events competing in 30 total rounds. Ovens recorded a 79.07 stroke average and shot her lowest round at 70 in round two of the Rocket Classic Invitational. Her best finish was T7 when competing in the Rocket Classic and she proved to be a strong senior leader for the Bobcats.
