KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Ohio baseball team (18-28, 14-13 MAC) fell to the Western Michigan Broncos (18-28, 15-10 MAC) today at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field, 14-3.Â
Â
Individually, fifth year Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) and senior Alex Finney (Oxford, Ohio) both finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Gideon Antle (Licking, Mo.) went 1-for-2.Â
Â
The Broncos surged ahead in the first inning, scoring six runs on five hits and two errors. Fifth year Will Sturek (Minnetonka, Minn.) led off the top of the second with a walk, advancing to third on a Kasperbauer single. After a wild pitch put Kasperbauer in scoring position as well, a Finney ground out drove in Sturek for Ohio's first run of the game. Later in the inning, Kasperbauer took advantage of a fielding error, putting the score at 6-2. Western Michigan answered in the bottom of the second, tacking on another run with an RBI single.
Â
After fifth year Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) drew a walk and advanced to second on a groundout, he scored Ohio's third and final run off a Kasperbauer single in the top of the third. The Broncos bounced back in the bottom of the frame, extending their lead to five runs with a fielder's choice.Â
Â
A Western Michigan home run and fly out in the sixth drove in two additional runs in the sixth. A seventh inning grand slam put the final score at 14-3.Â
Â
Up next, the Bobcats return to action May 18-20 for their final series of the regular season. Ohio is set to take on Akron in a three-game series at Skeeles Field in Akron, Ohio; first pitch on Thursday is at 3 p.m.Â
