OXFORD, Ohio – The second-seeded Ohio softball team (30-21) begins play at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Tournament on Thursday, May 11 against No. 3 Central Michigan (28-24). First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Miami Softball Stadium.
The four-team double elimination tournament will take place at Miami due to the RedHawks winning the regular season championship. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Bobcats will then return to action on Friday, May 12 to take on either No. 1 Miami or No. 4 Ball State, at either 1 p.m. or 3:30 pm. based on if the Bobcats are in the winner's or loser's bracket. An if necessary game will be played at 6 p.m.
The 2023 MAC Championship game will be played on Saturday, May 13 at 3 p.m., with the if necessary game scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
This matchup between Ohio and CMU is a rematch of last season's 2/3 matchup, with CMU winning, 7-1. CMU also won the season series over the Bobcats this year.
On Wednesday, first year head coach
Jenna Hall was named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, while redshirt freshman
Skipp Miller was named the MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year. Six Bobcats also earned All-MAC Honors, with juniors
Annalia Paoli,
Yasmine Logan and Miller earning All-MAC First Team recognition, while junior
Tori O'Brien and senior
Alexis Dawe were named Second Team All-MAC. Miller and freshman
Belle Hummel both earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
The Bobcats finish second in the conference and posted an overall batting average of .290. As a team the Bobcats recorded 63 doubles, 15 triples, 39 home runs and 243 RBI, while the Bobcat pitching staff posted a 3.10 team ERA. Over the course of the season, the Bobcats posted a 10-game winnings streak that included a 1-0 nine-inning victory over Ohio State.
