Ohio Softball Downs BGSU, 8-1, in Series Opener

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio softball team (11-14, 2-2 MAC) returned to action Friday afternoon, defeating Bowling Green (8-16, 1-3 MAC), 8-1, at Meserve Field.  
 
Overall, Ohio scored eight runs on 17 hits and did not commit and error, while Bowling Green scored one run on four hits and did not commit an error. 
 
Individually, junior Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while junior Tori O'Brien (Mason, Ohio) went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Sophomore CiCi Keidel (Hilliard, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with a homerun, three RBI and two runs scored, while junior Sydney Grein (Mokena, Ill.) had two hits, a double, RBI and a run scored. Freshman Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) added two hits and a run scored, while junior Annalia Paoli (Point Marion, Pa.) also recorded two hits and a run scored. Senior Alexis Dawe (Valley Springs, Calif.) added a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, while sophomore Reagan Farmer (Baltimore, Ohio) added a double and a run scored. Sophomore Emma Hoffner (New Stanton, Pa.) added a hit, a run scored and drew a walk, while senior Kaci Branch (Villa Park, Calif.) also drew a walk. 
 
In the circle, redshirt freshman Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) pitched seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out seven. 
 
Ohio threatened in the top of the first inning with Logan and Paoli reaching on base hits. Dawe then drew a walk to lead the bases with one out, however, the Bobcats were unable to capitalize, sending the game to the bottom of the first with the game still scoreless. 
 
The Bobcats struck in the top of the second inning. With one out, Keidel singled and stole second. After O'Brien drew a walk, Hummel then singled to load the bases with one out. Moments later, Logan singled to left, scoring two runs. After Paoli reached on a single, Hoffner registered a two-RBI single, giving Ohio a 4-0 lead going to the bottom of the second. 
 
After a few uneventful innings, Bowling Green got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with a leadoff solo homerun to cut the Ohio lead to 4-1 after four full frames. 
 
Ohio responded immediately in the top of the fifth inning, putting up four more runs. With one out, Farmer doubled to left center and then Hoffner drew a walk, allowing Farmer to score on an RBI single from Grein. The Bobcats were not done, and with two outs, Keidel hit a three-run homerun to left, putting Ohio up 8-1 going into the bottom of the fifth. 
 
Bowling Green threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, the Falcons recorded back-to-back singles, putting runners on first and third. However, the Ohio defense was able to force the Falcons to pop into a double play, ending the inning and sending the game to the seventh with the Bobcats leading, 8-1. 
 
After the Bobcats stranded two on in the top of the seventh, Miller and the Ohio defense were able to send the Falcons down in order in the bottom of the inning, securing Ohio's 8-1 win. 
 
Up next, due to weather, Saturday's doubleheader has been moved to Sunday, March 26, with game one set to start at Noon.
