TULSA, Okla.— The Ohio wrestling team wrapped up the 2022-23 season at the 2023 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships today (March 16) at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
At 149 pounds, No. 28
Alec Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) lost a hard-fought opening match in session one against No. 5 Paniro Johnson (ISU), losing 3-2 in overtime. In the consolation bracket, Hagan fell 4-0 to No. 21 Ethen Miller (Maryland).
No. 26
Peyten Kellar (Cutler, Ohio) ended the first period of his opening match at 157 pounds tied, 4-4, with No. 7 Bryce Andonian (Virginina Tech), but was unable to take the lead, losing by a narrow 7-6 decision. He continued to the consolation bracket, where he took on No. 23 Peter Pappas (George Mason). After a scoreless first period, Kellar fell behind, losing by a 3-1 decision.
At 174 pounds, No. 26
Sal Perrine (Northfield, Ohio) took on No. 7 Peyten Mocco (Mizzou), losing the match by a 3-1 decision. Perrine then took on No. 10 Rocky Jordan (Chattanooga) in the consolation bracket, falling by a 12-0 major decision.
No. 31
Zayne Lehman (Akron, Ohio) opened the 184-pound bracket against No. 2 Trent Hidlay (NC State), falling by a 24-9 technical fall. His match in the consolation bracket was tight; Lehman and No. 15 Layne Malczewski (MSU) were scoreless after the first period. Unable to score, he dropped the match by a 3-0 decision.
