
Ohio Baseball Drops Home Opener to Bowling Green

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (2-10) fell to the Bowling Green Falcons (3-8) this afternoon (March 10) at Bob Wren Stadium, 5-4.

Individually, junior Alec Patino (Sioux City, Iowa) went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored. Redshirt sophomore AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio) finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. On the mound, junior Luke Olson (Granville, Ill.) pitched seven innings, allowing four runs on four hits while retiring seven Falcons.Â

The Bobcats took an early lead when Patino crushed a homerun down the right field line. Bowling Green took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third, capitalizing on a throwing error and a first-third steal.Â

In the bottom of the fourth, Patino's second homerun of the game drove in fifth year Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa), tying the game, 3-3. After a scoreless fifth, Kasperbauer drove in Rausch with a single through the right side, giving Ohio a one-run lead. Solo Bowling Green homers in the seventh and ninth left the Bobcats trailing by one run.Â

Unable to score in the bottom of the ninth, Ohio fell 5-4.Â

Up next, the Bobcats return to action for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 11. First pitch for the first game is set for 1 p.m.; game two will start approximately 40 minutes after game one ends. Â
