CLEVELAND—The Ohio football team released its 2023 regular season schedule today (March 1) in conjunction with the Mid-American Conference office.
The Bobcats' 12-game slate features six home games at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium, including five Saturday dates. The 2023 season is the first time in eight years that Ohio will host Miami on a Saturday. The last time the rivals met on a Saturday in Athens, the Bobcats didn't allow a single touchdown, defeating the RedHawks 34-3.
Homecoming is set for Saturday, Oct. 7 against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Television platforms, along with gametimes, will be announced at a later date.
2023 OHIO FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
Saturday, August 26: at San Diego State (Snapdragon Stadium)
Notable: This marks the Bobcats and Aztecs' second time meeting; Ohio shutout San Diego State at the 2018 DXL Frisco Bowl, winning 27-0. The Aztecs are coming off a 7-6 2022 season. They were 5-3 against Mountain West Conference opponents and their season ended at the EasyPost Hawai'i Bowl, where they fell to Middle Tennessee State, 25-23.
Saturday, Sept. 2: vs. LIU (Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium)
Notable: This will be the Bobcats and the Sharks first time meeting. LIU finished the 2022 season 4-7 overall, recording all four wins against Northeast Conference opponents.
Saturday, Sept. 9: at Florida Atlantic (FAU Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats and the Owls met for the first time in 2022, opening Ohio's season on the newly named Frank Solich Field. Ohio took control in the second half and ended the game in victory formation to solidify their 41-38 victory. The Owls finished the 2022 season 5-7 overall and 4-4 against Conference USA opponents.
Saturday, Sept. 16: vs. Iowa State (Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats are 0-8 against the Cyclones. When Iowa State last travelled to Athens in 2001, 24,000 fans packed Peden Stadium, setting a new attendance record. Today, that is the ninth most attended game in program history. The Cyclones are coming off a 4-8 season; they were 1-8 against Big 12 opponents.
Saturday, Sept. 23: at Bowling Green (Doyt L. Perry Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats and the Falcons have met 74 times since 1945 and have a 31-41-2 all-time record. The last time the two teams faced off on Nov. 22, 2022, Ohio claimed the MAC East title and a spot in the MAC Championship with their 38-14 victory. Bowling Green wrapped up their 2022 season 6-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Saturday, Oct. 7: vs. Kent State (Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats have a 44-28-2 record against the Golden Flashes. The two teams opened MAC play against each other in Kent last season. After Ohio blocked a Kent State PAT at the end of the fourth quarter, they fell 31-24 in overtime. The Golden Flashes finished the season 5-7 overall and 4-4 against MAC opponents.
Saturday, Oct. 14: at Northern Illinois (Huskie Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats and the Huskies have met 24 times since 1968; they have an 11-13 series record. Northern Illinois traveled to Athens in 2022; after the Huskies tied the game in the third, the Bobcats came back in the fourth to win, 24-17. This game marked the third game in what would become Ohio's seven-game winning streak. Northern Illinois is coming off a 3-9 season, going 2-6 against MAC opponents.
Saturday, Oct. 21: vs. Western Michigan (Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats and the Broncos have a series record of 31-33-1. The last time they faced off, Ohio won 33-14 at Waldo Stadium, marking their first road victory of the 2022 season. Last season, the Broncos were 5-7 overall and 4-4 in conference.
Saturday, Oct. 28: vs. Miami (Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats have 42-54-2 record against the RedHawks, winning the last two Battle of the Bricks. The last time the two teams faced off on a Saturday was on Oct. 1, 2016, at Yager Stadium; holding Miami to one touchdown in the third quarter, Ohio won 17-7. The Bobcats last hosted the RedHawks on a Saturday in 2015, where they won in dominant fashion, 34-3. Miami is coming off a 6-7 2022 season; against MAC opponents, they went 4-4.
Tuesday, Nov. 7: at Buffalo (UB Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats and the Bulls have met 28 times since 1949; Ohio's series record in 17-11. Ohio and Buffalo faced off in their first midweek game of 2022; the Bobcats won, 45-24. The Bulls finished the 2022 season 7-6 overall and 5-3 in conference. They wrapped up their season with a 23-21 victory over Georgia Southern at the Camellia Bowl.
Wednesday, Nov. 15: vs. Central Michigan (Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats' and the Chippewas have met 34 times since 1972; Ohio's series record is 5-26-2. The teams last met in 2021; Ohio fell behind in the end of the third quarter, ultimately falling 30-27. Central Michigan is coming off a 4-8 2022 season; they were 3-5 against MAC opponents.
Friday, Nov. 24: at Akron (InfoCision Stadium)
Notable: The Bobcats and the Zips have met 39 times since 1919 and have a series record of 24-14-1. The two last met in Athens for Ohio's 2022 homecoming game; the Bobcats' dominant offensive performance led to a 55-34 victory. Akron is coming off a 2-10 2022 season; against MAC opponents, the Zips finished 1-7.
Ohio finished the 2022 season 10-4 overall, 7-1 against MAC opponents and 6-0 at home. They wrapped up their record-setting performance with a 30-27 overtime victory against Wyoming in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl (Dec. 30). The 2022 season marks the Bobcats' first 10-win season since 2011 and the fourth in program history.
