
Ohio Women's Golf is Led by Mackenzie McRee at the Rio Verde Invitational

RIO VERDE, ARIZONA -- The Ohio Women's Golf team completed their final round at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on Sunday (2/26). After three rounds and 54 holes, the Bobcats finished 16th overall. Ohio concluded the tournament with a total score of 937 (+73), shooting a 314 in round 1, a 312 in round 2, and finished out with a 311. Other familiar MAC teams at the competition included: Akron, Central Michigan, Ball State, Bowling Green, Western Michigan, and Eastern Michigan.Â
Individually, Ohio was led by Freshman Mackenzie McRee (Tucson, AZ), tying for 23rd place with a final score of 227 (+11). McRee shot a 75 in round one, a 77 in round two, and finished out in her home state shooting a 75 in round three. Sophomore, Thanya Arasu (St. Johns, FL.) finished next for the Bobcats in 54th place with a final score of 233 (+17) after three rounds of play, shooting an 81, 73, and closing out with a 79. In 64th place was sophomore Sydney Longstreth (Carmel, IN.) totaling a 235 (+19) for the team. Longstreth shot a 79 in round one and grabbed a 78 in the final two rounds. Finishing out for the Ohio Golf Team was Junior Mariana Vega-Rivera (Reynoldsburg, OH) in 82nd place, shooting a 244 (+28). In round one Mariana got a 79, followed by a 85 in round two, and completing round three with an 80.
Competing as an individual for the Ohio Bobcats was senior Avery Ovens (Wiloughby Hills, OH). Ovens shot an overall score of 247 (+31), with a score breakdown of an 84 in rounds 1 and 2, and a 79 in round 3. Ovens completed the invitational in 89th overall.Â

After three days of competition, Casil Allendesalazar from Central Michigan was the first place golfer at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational. Casil Allendesalazar shot a 217 (+1), putting her at the top of the individual leader board. On the team side, Xavier University came in first place out of the 16 teams competing, coming out with a total score of 875 (+11).Â

The Ohio Bobcats will continue their 2023 season over spring break, competing March 13th and 14th in Dade City, Florida. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are hosting the Spring Break Shootout in March where the Bobcats will face off against several competitive teams from around the nation.
