OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team opened competition at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 22) at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center on the campus of Miami. After day one, the Bobcats sit in fourth place with 58 points.
Akron leads after the first two relays with 80 points, followed by Buffalo (68) and Miami (64).
In the first event of the night, the 200-yard medley relay, the Ohio 'A' team of freshman
Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.), junior
Ami Hornyak (Debrecen, Hungary), junior
Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) and junior
Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) placed fifth overall, touching in with a time of 1:39.92.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Ohio 'A' team of senior
McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio), freshman
Lauren Hartel (Arlington, Va.), senior
Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio) and freshman
Anna McGrath finished fourth, recording a time of 7:15.23. The finish was the second-fast 800-free relay in program history.
The Bobcats are back in action for day two of the MAC Championships on Thursday, Feb. 23. Preliminary races are set to begin at 10:30 a.m., with finals set to start at 6 p.m.
