Ohio Softball Concludes Weekend at Tiger Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Ohio softball team (2-6) wrapped up play at the 2023 Tiger Classic hosted by LSU on Sunday morning (Feb. 19), falling to Utah (7-3), 8-0 in five innings. 
 
Overall, Ohio did not score a run on two hits and committing two errors, while Utah scored eight runs on nine hits and did not commit an error. 
 
Individually, freshman Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded one hit, as did senior Alexis Dawe (Valley Springs, Calif.), with junior Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) drawing a walk. Hummel and Logan both registered stolen bases. 
 
In the circle, graduate student Kylie Coffelt (Beloit, Ohio) got the start, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing five runs on six hits and walking one. Redshirt freshman Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out three. 
 
Utah jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits to go up 3-0 after the top half of the opening frame. In the bottom of the inning, Logan drew a walk, but Ohio was unable to capitalize. After a scoreless second inning, Utah added on in the top of the third, scoring two runs on three hits, taking a 5-0 lead. The Bobcats first hit of the game came in the bottom of the third when Hummel singled to left, however the Utah defense was able to keep Ohio off the board. 
 
Utah added on in the top of the fourth, scoring three more runs to go up 8-0. The Bobcats looked to extend the game with Dawe reaching on a single through the left side in the bottom of the fourth, however Ohio was unable to get a run across in the fourth or fifth innings, ultimately falling, 8-0. 
 
Up next, the Bobcats head to Buies Creek, N.C. February 24-25 for the 2023 Campbell University Camel Stampede. While there, the Bobcats will face off with Rider, Wagner, Campbell and Duke,
