BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Ohio track and field team wrapped up its regular indoor season at the Virginia Tech Challenge this weekend (Feb. 17-18) inside of Rector Field House.
Redshirt senior Taniah Stephens (Erie, Pa.) kicked things off with a second place finish in the 60m dash after improving her prelim time of 7.80 to 7.77. Stephens also placed second in the 200m dash, clocking a 25.56. Graduate student Larissa Manciaz (Eagle Lake, Texas) followed, finishing fourth with a time of 25.65. Manciaz then secured a second-place finish of her own in the 400m, running a season-best 57.18.
In the mile, freshman Alyssa Mason (Dublin, Ohio), senior Alyssa Christian (Newark, Ohio), and sophomore Kelsi Harris (Liberty Township, Ohio) swept first through third, clocking times of 4:56.61, 4:58.39, and 4:59.66. Sophomore Theresa Hagey (Akron, Ohio) and junior Kenna Loveless (Tallmadge, Ohio) also placed in the top-8 with a 5:01.87 (fifth) and 5:12.38 (eight). Additionally, Mason, Christian, Harris, and Hagey all clocked PRs during the event.
Freshman Leila Boussedra (Worthington, Ohio), fifth year Madelyn Bartolone (Massillion, Ohio), and Sarah Liederbach (Petoskey, Mich.) also swept the 3000m with times of 10:02.73, 10:06.67, and 10:17.75.
In the 800m, fifth year Stephanie Pierce (Fairborn, Ohio) recorded a new PR of 2:13.44, taking second. Freshmen Sophie Besett (Twinsburg, Ohio) and Allie Martin (Kingwood, W.Va.) followed in fifth and seventh, clocking a 2:22.90 and 2:25.55.
The 4x400 team wrapped up the running events with a first place finish, running a 3:57.97.
In the field events, junior Imani Brown (Crown Point, Ind.) took first, jumping 1.53m. Sophomore Jordan Baith (Seville, Ohio) throw a life-long best of 14.47m in the weight throw for a top-seven finish. Junior Emily McKenzie (Dillsburg, Pa.) and senior Kassidy Betzing (Pomeroy, Ohio) placed fourth and fifth with jumps of 5.34m and 5.33m in the long jump. McKenzie also had a second-place finish in the triple jump, jumping a lifelong best of 11.65.
Up next, the Bobcats will wrap up their indoor season at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 hosted by Bowling Green.Â
