MADISON, Wis. – The Ohio men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2023 NCAA Great Lakes Regionals on Friday, Nov. 10 in Madison, Wis. The women's team placed seventh in the 6k and the men's team finished 22nd in the 10k.
Heading into the regional championships, the women's team was ranked No. 8 in the Great Lakes region. The group placed higher than the 2023 MAC Champions, Toledo, who ranked sixth ahead of the regional championships.
Junior Theresa Hagey (Akron, Ohio) and fifth year Tony Tonkovich (Athens, Ohio) were the first Bobcats to cross the finish in their races. Hagey placed 30th with a time of 21:10.9 and Tonkovich placed 87th with a finish time of 31:34.1.
The women's team had three top 50 finishes and six in the top 75. Sophomore Leila Boussedra (Worthington, Ohio) ran a 21:16.0 to place her 35th. The last top 50 runner for the Bobcats was junior Kelsi Harris (Liberty Township, Ohio), who placed 47th with a time of 21:26.5.
Sophomore Alyssa Mason (Dublin, Ohio) and fifth year Carina Weaver (Lexington, Ohio) also scored for the Bobcats. Mason scored 61st with a time of 21:38.7 and following closely behind at 63rd was Weaver who ran 21:39.6.
Sophomore Allie Martin (Kingwood, W.Va.) and junior Sara Liederbach (Petoskey, Mich) placed 74th and 133rd, finishing with times of 21:48.5 and 22:46.2.
The men's team had two runners place in the top 100 and five in the top 150. Sophomore Sam Beeler (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished ten seconds after Tonkovich, securing the 100th place finish with a time of 31:44.5. In the 134 spot was sophomore Rocco DeVincent (Morgantown, W.Va.), completing the race in 32:13.6.
Freshmen Andrew Bracken (Westerville, Ohio) and Charlie Slates (Gahanna, Ohio) finished close together finishing 142nd and 146th. Bracken ran a 32:27.9 and Slates finished with a time of 32:35.3. Junior Jake Ethridge (Lewis Center, Ohio) placed 169th bringing in a time of 32:59.9, and Marcus Runkle closed out for the Bobcats with a time of 33:38.7, giving him 187th place.
