PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

Athens, Ohio – After a successful Homecoming week in Athens, the fall sports are back in action as they head toward MAC Championship time, while swim and dive kicks off the 2023-24 season at home. Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints. 

FOOTBALL
Oct. 14 / at Northern Illinois / DeKalb, Ill. / Huskie Stadium / 4 p.m. EST / ESPNU / Watch / Live Results / Audio / Digital Guide 

After a commanding offensive performance against Kent State last week, the Ohio football team (5-1, 2-0 MAC) is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 14 as they head to DeKalb, Ill. looking for bowl eligibility when they face off with Northern Illinois (2-4, 1-1 MAC) inside Huskie Stadium. Game time is set for 4 p.m. EST and can be seen on ESPNU where Drew Carter and Dustin Fox will have the call. 

Ohio is coming off a commanding 42-17 victory over Kent State on Oct. 7. Quarterback Kurtis Rourke went 20-of-32 for 300 yards and three touchdowns, while wide receiver Miles Cross grabbed seven catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Cross earned MAC East Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance. 

WOMEN'S GOLF
Oct. 9-10 / at Rocket Classic / Port Clinton, Ohio / Catawba Island Club / All Day / Live Results

The Ohio women's golf team closes out it's fall schedule this week at the 2023 Rocket Classic hosted by Toledo at the 5,979-yard Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio . The two-day event begins on Monday, Oct. 9 with 36 holes, before closing out the week on Tuesday, Oct. 10 with 18 holes. 

Competing at this year's event are; Ohio, Akron, Toledo, Dayton, Lindenwood and Bethune Cookman. 

Competing for the Bobcats are; Mariana Vega-Rivera, Zoe Luebbers, Morgan Rodgers, Thanya Arasu and Sydney Longstreth. Competing unattached from Ohio are; Anna Coccia, Sloane Post and Alaina Nugent

Ohio soccer (4-6-3, 2-3-1 MAC) is back in action this weekend for two more MAC matchups starting Thursday, Oct. 12 when Ohio hosts Central Michigan (2-5-4, 1-4-1 MAC). First touch is set for 4 p.m. at Chessa Field and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio then closes out the week on the road on Sunday, Oct. 15 when the Bobcats head to Muncie, Ind. to take on Ball State (6-5-2, 4-0-2 MAC). First touch is set for 1 p.m. and will be seen on ESPN+.

The Ohio volleyball team (9-10, 4-3 MAC) is back in Athens this week for two matches inside the Convocation Center. Ohio opens the weekend on Friday, Oct. 13 when they host Bowling Green (7-10, 1-5 MAC). First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the Convo and can be seen on ESPN+. The Bobcats conclude the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they take on the Falcons to conclude the season series. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside the Convocation Center and can be seen on ESPN+. 

This week's promotions include Youth Night on Friday with post-match autographs, while Saturday will be the Bobcats' annual Dig Pink match.  

SWIM AND DIVE

The Ohio swimming and diving team opens the 2023-24 season this week when they host Southern Illinois Oct. 13-14 at the Ohio University Aquatic Center. Friday's meet will begin at 5 p.m. with all scored swim events and 3m dive scheduled to take place. Friday's meet will be streamed on YouTube. On Saturday, 1m dive will conclude the scoring portion of the meet, with the event set to start at 9 a.m. Folling the conclusion of diving, both teams will partake in long course exhibitions set to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday's events will not be streamed.

The Ohio field hockey (4-6, 2-2 MAC) team is back in action this week for two road matches. The Bobcats open the week on Friday, Oct. 13 when they head to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to take on Central Michigan (1-11, 0-4 MAC). First touch is set for 2 p.m. EST and will be streamed live. Ohio then heads to Evanston, Ill. to take on No. 2 Northwestern (12-2) on Sunday, Oct. 15. First touch is set for 12 p.m. EST and can be seen on BIG+. 

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Oct. 6 / at 2023 Cross Country Pre-Nationals / Charlottesville, Va. / Panorama Farms / Men's 8K; 9:40 a.m. EST, Women's 6k; 10:30 a.m. / Meet Information / Live Results

Ohio men's and women's cross country are back in action for one final tune-up before the 2023 MAC Championships. Both teams head to Charlottesville, Va. for the 2023 Cross Country Pre-Nationals hosted by Virginia at Panorama Farms. The men's 8K is set to begin at 9:40 a.m., with the women's 6k scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Virginia and Panorama Farms is the home of the 2023 NCAA Championships.

The Bobcats last took to the course on Sept. 29 at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, where sophomore Theresa Hagey placed 14th overall and the second-best 6k time in program history (20:10.09, PR).  

SOFTBALL

The Ohio softball team concludes its fall game slate on Saturday, Oct. 14. The Bobcats will host Marshall at 11:30 a.m. at the Ohio Softball Field, before closing competition at 4:30 p.m. against Ohio Dominican. 

BASEBALL

The Ohio baseball team will take the field on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they host Marshall for a fall scrimmage. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Bob Wren Stadium.
