BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio men's and women's cross country teams concluded the 2023 Mid-American Championships with several impressive finishes on Saturday at the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course in Bowling Green, Ohio. The women's team placed third in the 6k and the men's team finished seventh in the 8k race.
Junior
Theresa Hagey (Akron, Ohio) and fifth year
Tony Tonkovich (Athens, Ohio) led both teams with standout performances. Hagey was the top finisher of all Ohio runners as she earned First Team All-MAC honors with a third-place time of 20:33.74 in the women's race. Tonkovich secured Second Team All-MAC honors with an eighth-place finish and personal-best time of 24:29.93 in the men's 8k.
The women's team had three athletes place in the top 15 and six finish in the top 30 of the race. Sophomore
Leila Boussedra (Worthington, Ohio) earned Second Team All-MAC honors for the second year in a row with a 10
th place finish (21:00.65) in the 6k. Junior
Kelsi Harris (Liberty Township, Ohio) followed closely behind Boussedra, placing 15
th overall with a personal-best time of 21:15.23.
Sophomore
Alyssa Mason (Dublin, Ohio), fifth year
Carina Weaver (Lexington, Ohio) and sophomore
Allie Martin (Kingwood, W. Va.) crossed the finish line almost simultaneously. Mason (21:33.78) finished 24
th, Weaver (21:34.41) followed behind in 25
th and Martin (21:40.12) came in 28
th place.
After Tonkovich, the men's group had four other runners finish in the top 50. Sophomores
Rocco DeVincent (Morgantown, W. Va.) and
Sam Beeler (Cincinnati, Ohio) rounded out Ohio's top performers in the 8k. DeVincent finished 30
th (25:15.29) and Beeler came in 37
th place (25:24.07).
Freshman
Andrew Bracken (Westerville, Ohio) and junior
Jake Ethridge (Lewis Center, Ohio) earned back-to-back finishes, coming in 40
th and 41
st place. Bracken ran a time of 25:29.91 and Ethridge recorded a personal-best time of 25:30.59.
The Bobcats will be back in action at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 10 in Madison, Wis.
