ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team (7-2, 4-0 MAC) returned to action Saturday afternoon for its final dual meet of the regular season, defeating Denison, 258-42, on Senior Day inside the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
Prior to the start of the meet, the Bobcats honored its seven seniors,
Mollie Brackett (Appleton, Wis),
Sienna Breton (Cheshire, Conn.),
Maya Conte (Brecksville, Ohio),
Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio),
McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio),
Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.) and
Halli Siwik (Fishers, Ind.).
The meet opened with the 200-yard medley relay, with the Ohio 'A' team of freshman
Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.), junior
Ami Hornyak (Debrecen, Hungary), junior
Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) and Grau finishing first with a time of 1:47.57.
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, freshman
Lauren Hartel (Arlington, Va.) placed first in 10:17.44. Then in the 200 free, the Bobcats took the top two spots with junior
Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) placing first in 1:52.61, followed by junior
Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) placing second in 1:53.05.
Brust earned the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in with a time of 56.66. Fortman finished second in 57.31, while Schrank finished third in 57.93.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Hornyak picked up another first-place finish, touching in with a time of 1:03.31. Freshman
Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio) finished second in 1:03.95, while freshman
Alexandra Wayner placed third in 1:05.14.
Marks took the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in 2:05.08, while junior
Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) finished second in 2:05.61 and sophomore
Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) placed third in 2:07.25. Grau then took the top spot in the 50 free, touching in at 23.86, followed by Dunigan in second with a time of 24.16. Voigt then placed third, touching in with a time of 24.32.
Grau was back in action in the 100 free, picking up a first-place finish with a time of 51.71. Voigt placed second in 52.80, while Brackett earned a third-place finish with a time of 52.97. Then in the 200 back,
Athena Aravantinou (North Bethesda, Md.) finished first in 2:02.98, while junior
Riley Bunstine (Alexandria, Ohio) placed second with a time of 2:04.47.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, DiBetta finished first with a time of 2:17.48, while freshman
Emily Ellsworth finished second with a time of 2:21.59. Strine added a third-place finish, touching in at 2:22.47. Hartel picked up another first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 4:58.89, while Fortman placed third in 5:05.43.
In the 100 fly, Brust finished first with a time of 55.80, followed by Hornyak in second with a time of 56.71 and Farrell in third, touching in at 57.23. In the 400 IM, sophomore
Raphaelle Anglade (Toulouse, France) placed first with a time of 4:30.73, while McKee finished second in 4:32.76. Croaning finished the event in third place with a time of 4:34.13.
In diving, Breton placed first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 295.73, followed by Siwik in second with a score of 274.65. Sophomore
Grace Matocha (Magnolia, Texas) earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 254.78.
In the final event of the day, the Ohio 'B' team of Brust, Brackett, Voigt and Dunigan finished the 400-yard free relay in first place with a time of 3:28.93.
In the 1-meter event, Siwik picked up the first-place finish with a score of 270.30, while Breton placed second (269.85), followed by Matocha (250.73) in third.
Up next, the Bobcats have a few weeks off competition before heading to Columbus, Ohio Feb. 10-12 for the OSU Winter Invite.
