Huntington, W. Va. – The Ohio track & field team had a successful start to its indoor season, finishing third at the Marshall Classic inside the Chris Cline Athletics Complex today (Jan. 14).
The meet started off with the weight throw, led by fifth year Autumn Mohan (Chillicothe, Ohio). Mohan finished fifth with a throw of 15.22m and was followed by junior Jordan Baith (Seville, Ohio) who threw 13.66m for a seventh-place finish.
Mohan moved up the ranks in the shot put, finishing third with a throw of 12.81m. Sophomore Millie Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) took fifth, throwing 12.04m while Baith finished eighth with a throw of 10.62m.
Sophomore Michaela Frey (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) placed fifth in the pole vault with a vault of 3.15m. Meanwhile, junior Imani Brown (Crown Point, Ind.) took sixth in the high jump, jumping 1.59m.
Senior Kassidy Betzing (Pomeroy, Ohio) finished seventh in the long jump while junior Emily McKenzie (Dillsburg, Pa.) placed fourth in the triple jump with jumps of 5.04m and 10.86m.
Redshirt senior year Taniah Stephens (Erie, Pa.) kicked off the running events for Ohio, taking her heat in the 60m prelims with a time of 7.81. Freshman Josie Knierim (McConnelsville, Ohio) also took her heat, running a 7.80. Freshman Maggie Stewart (Worthington, Ohio) followed Knierim, taking second with an 8.17, but was just shy of advancing to the finals. Freshman Rhiea Gordon (Youngstown, Ohio) also competed in the 60m dash, taking fourth in her heat to advance to the finals with a time of 7.93.
In the 60m finals, Knierim took first, clocking a 7.63. Stephens finished fourth with 7.79 while Gordon placed seventh with a 7.95.
In the mile, four Bobcats finished in the top eight with freshman Alyssa Mason (Dublin, Ohio) leading the way. Mason clocked a 4:59.90 to secure fourth place, while sophomore Theresa Hagey (Akron, Ohio) followed, taking fifth with a time of 5:02.75. Sophomore Kelsi Harris (Liberty Township, Ohio) came in next for Ohio, clocking a 5:06.46 to take seventh. Freshman Leila Boussedra (Worthington, Ohio) secured the eighth-place spot with a time of 5:13.56.
Fifth year Stephanie Pierce (Fairborn, Ohio) had a top-three finish overall in the 600m, clocking a time of 1:37.34 in her heat. Freshman Sophie Besett (Twinsburg, Ohio) also had a top-eight finish with a time of 1:41.53. In the 800m, senior Alyssa Christian (Newark, Ohio) took second, running a 2:17.29 while freshman Allie Martin (Kingwood, W.Va.) placed fifth with a 2:21.35.
Knierim took first once again in the 200m with a time of 25.20. Graduate student Larissa Manciaz (Eagle Lake, Texas) grabbed herself a top-three finish after running a 25.40. Gordon finished in eighth, clocking a 26.56.
The Bobcats took the top-four places in the 3000m run, placing five in the top-eight. Fifth year Madelyn Bartolone (Massillon, Ohio) finished first with a time of 10:12.92. Bartolone was followed by junior Kenna Loveless (Tallmadge, Ohio), senior Carina Weaver (Lexington, Ohio), and redshirt junior Bailey Roberts (North Kingsville, Ohio) who took second (10:15.29), third (10:15.66) and fourth (10:16.69). Sophomore Sarah Liederbach (Petoskey, Mich.) took seventh for Ohio with a time of 10:29.66.
The day wrapped up with the 4x400m relay, with the team of Manciaz, Besset, Knierim, and Stephens taking third with a 3:59.86 in the first heat. The group of freshman Jenna Razavi (Medina, Ohio), Pierce, Christian, and freshman Ashley Long (Hilliard, Ohio) finished sixth overall with a 4:10.86.
